Haswell-E + X99 Motherboard Temporary Guide - OS X 10.10

Haswell-E + X99 Motherboard Temporary Guide - OS X 10.10.0

Great guide! I wish I had the money to build a socket 2011-3 system. By the way, the 5960K is really the 5960X. ;)

Haswell-E + X99 Motherboard Temporary Guide - OS X 10.10.0

It still hangs at "waiting for root device"

I changed the code
Code:
<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>kext-dev-mode=1 npci=0x2000</string>

and at chimera boot typed
nv_disable=1
(also tried -v -s -x )

but probably there is something wrong, somewhere.

Any ideas, any one?

Try to change in the org file: IGPEnabler=No and then use -v -f nv_disable=1

Thanks!. But I have much bigger problem: in the process of trying to get a hackintosh, it just killed my original Mac Pro. There is a kernel panic (or something) I cannot get in to OSX. I tried to install yosemite, but it restarted. So now I have two computers that don't work.
Can someone please help?

Haswell-E + X99 Motherboard Temporary Guide - OS X 10.10.0

If I'm not mistaken, I think there are a couple folks on this thread (maybe more?) that have the ThuderboltEX II (or the II Dual) card working on their ASUS boards in 10.10.0 besides Samtimbaud. Hopefully Samtimbaud or someone can shed some light on how to get mine working.

BTW, I've got both a new ThunderboltEX II **and** and ThunderboltEX II Dual card here. I thought the Dual card that I purchased was bad, so went back to MicroCenter & got the single- port version. I've tried the "activation" process under Windows 7 Ultimate, and just now tried in a fresh install of Windows 8 Pro.

  1. I've downloaded the Thunderbolt software from ASUS and installed, then
  2. Powered down the machine & inserted card in the slot closest to the edge of the board (from what I've read, that is the recommended slot), as well as attached the jumper cable to the TB header.
  3. Reboot & go into UEFI BIOS - Per Samtimbaud's recommendations, have changed Security to "Legacy Only" and set cache to 128. Save & exit.
  4. Boot into Windows, then connect a TB device (I've also tried connecting device before powering on, too - with no luck).
  5. RESULTS:

  • When I right-click on the Thunderbolt tray icon and choose View Connected Devices, no devices appear
  • When I choose Settings, I get an error message saying I need to connect a TB device first.
TB2.PNG TB1.PNG
I've tried connecting the following TB devices - all yielding zero success:
  • Seagate GoFlex TB drive
  • Apple FW800 > TB adapter (and 2 different drives - one FW400 with Belkin 400/800FW cable, and one FW800 drive).
  • Apple Ethernet > TB adapter

As mentioned before, both TB cards show up in the UEFI BIOS, so I know the board is seeing them. I'm not getting the red LED light indicating that the jumper cable is not connected. And all HDs connected (via FW adapter or the Seagate TB drive) all power up when connected. So I would like to think I'm really close... But I need to get this working in Windows properly - otherwise it won't work in OSX.

There must be something else going on in the BIOS (maybe?) that I need to set? Maybe a setting on the PCIe slot itself? I've even gone back into the BIOS > Thunderbolt and set back to original factory default settings, and still nothing (thinking Windows needs factory defaults, but OSX needs samtimbaud's config).

PS...this is my 2nd X99-Deluxe motherboard, too...the first one I bought was an open box...I thought (among other reasons) that it might have been a bad mobo, so I returned it Friday & got a fresh retail version. So no luck with the first mobo and Dual card under Win7, and now no luck with a brand new motherboard and BOTH the single- and dual-port versions using Win7 or Win8.

:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead: (is that too many)??

UPDATE: SOLVED!!! Please see here for more detailed information on the solution that worked for me.

x99 & 5930K working but can only boot from USB

First, everyone, thanks for all of your work on this. I'm amazed to have gotten this far (Geekbench: 3490/19684).

The only way that I can boot is to enter BIOS, click on the USB drive (I think this is a boot override setting) and allow the installer stick to boot. I can then mount my Yosemite drive normally. My hardware is:

Asus X99 Deluxe
i7 5930K
Dual R9 280X GPU
32GB RAM (G.Skill PC4-1900)
512GB SSD

I created the Unibeast installation USB per the guide. The only tweak was disabling the AppleIGB.kext which was causing intermittent kernel panics.

I installed to the SSD, ran the patch, rebooted in safe mode (via USB) and installed Multibeast. In order to boot without kernel panics, I had to downgrade the FakeSMC.kext with hardware sensors (bundled with Multibeast) to the version on the downloads section of this site. I also added -f flag to avoid hanging at "waiting on root device". I've attached a copy of my boot.plist file.

If I try to boot without the USB stick, I run into a totally hostile DOS screen (attached). I suspect that I've missed something very basic along the way. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

I thought that it wasn't necessary to boot from usb with Bios update 1004

I am only is this stage "waiting on root device". Thanks for sharing the '-f' , hope it works

I'm using v. 1004 of the BIOS but perhaps there's a setting that I've missed.

As for the -f flag, I hope it does the trick. As I think about it, however, it seems to contradict the setting to use kernel caches which I also have enabled.

@ Samtimbaud

Hey guy sorry if it is too much to ask you for help on how you finally got Yosemite install in your Deluxe motherboard. As you can see I have the same specs almost as yours, so if you don't mind and have some time to spare and explain me the steps that you did to install Yosemite I will appreciate your kindness, TIA SAM.
