Okay, I just spent the entire morning reading through this thread after being led here by your post in the 'Apple branded bluetooth module in USB hub- Solved Sleep' thread... your USB dongle bluetooth mod was remarkably like my own, except I used a OEM USB dongle shell and a Pololu voltage regulator board that was a bit smaller than the TO-220 package regulator you used before the bypass electrolytics were added.
Your mod here is outstanding, and even though I think it's probably the coolest implementations I've ever seen and would like to build one now after seeing it, the truth is I almost certainly never will because of time and the number of other projects I'm currently working on- 6 motherboards now waiting for me to implement projects on, and work being done on my condo, along with the usual everyday life stuff. The work that you've done on this project, the resourcefulness and ingenuity are OUTSTANDING!!!
I was fascinated by the thread because it contained so much information and insight that I can apply to other projects; I've never heard of anyone using the Custom Solutions header- you fully implemented the A1181/A1114 bluetooth module properly without anything but wire, taking 3.3v required for it from the CS header, and connected a substitute touch power switch through it as well- brilliant. Your section on implementing Hi Res audio in a headless computer environment was extremely timely for me as I'm just doing the same myself, albeit with a custom 'mac mini', but the tips on remote management and remote control apps you used with your iPad (I'm doing the same myself) were also something I've been trying to decide which apps to use. The SATA cables with the mini-connectors are also something which will be useful to me in the future. Your heatsink solution is well thought out and implemented, and even though you ran into a road-bump with your blu-ray, in the end you succeeded in getting that working with both the file system and DVD playback. There's a ton of useful information in this thread that is useful to not only your mod here but for general use elsewhere. Bravo, MacTester57, many thanks for a job done well and well done!
