Installation Guide For Using Clover on the Intel Haswell NUC

Did you follow the instructions NOT to use disk utility to format the second partition as FAT 32 and just instead shrink the OS X partition and leave the rest as Free Space? This is one necessary step as making a change to FAT 32 with disk utility will change the disk scheme to a hybrid MBR system instead of GUID. It must stay pure GUID.

Just wanted to thank you for the detailed guide. I set up my NUC using WonkeyDonkey's guide, but today found that the App Store would not let me download the updates for Pages, Numbers, or Keynote. (I was using iWork '09, installed from DVD.)

Replacing Chameleon with Clover let me update my apps. Before the switch, I also had sporadic problems with the built-in audio (popping, hissing, weird loss of the midrange and volume). So far the audio had been clean.

Bonus: Everything else continued working, including my AzureWave card.

Thanks again.

I've just been scanning through this thread again; a little confirmation regarding hardware...

The i5 NUC models use the same motherboard despite the different designations. I posted this to my new install guide, but here is the summary :

There are several variations of the Core i5 model NUC; they are all supported by this guide :

Intel Haswell NUC D54250WYB : Motherboard Only Package
Intel Haswell NUC D54250WYK : Motherboard In Standard Chassis
Intel Haswell NUC D54250WYKH : Motherboard In Enhanced Chassis, Space For 2.5” SSD

Note : The motherboard in each of the 3 packages contains the same hardware.

There should be no difference in getting the hardware to work, no matter which one you have.

Did anyone have to do anything different than what is stated in the OP #1 to make it work for the current bios ver 26? Here is my setup:

Intel Haswell NUC Model D54250WYK
256 gb Crucial MX100 SSD
8Gb G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3 Ram (F3-1600C9D-8GRSL)

OSX 10.9.3 from app store

Post #1 talks about taking DSDT, SSDT from the other thread, but I can't find the DSDT files. I found SSDT-1 v2 there.

AppleHDAIDT kext prepared by minihack needs to be placed to /System/Library/Extensions post install?

There appears to be a new version of the clover configurator. Are you guys using the config.plst from OP#1 for the current bios?

I imagine upgrade to yosemite would require a re-install? Though other 10.9.X upgrades can be done directly from the app store?

Are you using 1 or 2 sticks of ram ?

This is correct. The original guide I posted used a DSDT.aml file and SSDT.aml also.

The current guide changes that, so that we now use 2 x SSDT files and the DSDT is no longer used, hence it was removed.

We do this because it means you dont have to recompile your own DSDT every time an updated bios is released by Intel. The SSDT files supplied should survive both bios updates and OSX updates without needing to be modified, so as an end user, it is something less for you to worry about and makes the install guide easier to complete.

The 2 SSDT files contain everything that was in the original DSDT & SSDT. You can forget about the complexities of setting up and using a DSDT now.

Whilst I haven't used the Clover method described in this thread, it seems like it works well and you are more than welcome to grab my SSDT files to help it along. SSDT.aml and SSDT-1.aml are all you need to grab.

Either install method should work just fine with version 0026 of the bios.

I am using 2 sticks of 4gb each, total 8gb ram.

Any thoughts on minihack's AppleHDAIDT kext?

Do we not need to change anything on the ACPI tab of clover configuration?

Should we still do the post stuff described on your other thread, or just this thread. There is also a post list of things to do on the other generic clover thread. I imaging any other user coming to this thread would have similar questions. It would be of benefit to just update post #1. I am sure many of us would be happy to help if there was a wiki thread.

Well this is not my guide (Clover) so I cant update it, that is down to the author of the guide.

There are some parts that can be mixed between the two guides but this is not generally recommended.

My section 9 regarding customisation should be fine for you though.

You will need to ask for help here regarding the Clover setup for it though as I dont use Clover at the moment.

I have attached a folder with a summary of the files for Clover for you.

Use my config.plist in there as it has all the patches you need in it.

I recommend - install very latest version of Clover as it has best support for current and likely future system; install Clover using the settings mentioned in first post, but then when the EFI partition is mounted open up EFI/EFI/CLOVER and drag in my ACPI folder, kexts folder and config.plist and all should be good for you.

Note that yes you can still use the HDAIDT kext I posted in this thread. It is as good as anything else is right now. I'll let you know when I have an updated version.

FYI in the ACPI folder the SSDT and SSDT-1 in it are the same as the ones WD posted. SSDT-2 is there also which is what I use now to inject properties for my Airport/BT card.

1. I am on v. 26 and all okay.

2. Yes

3. Not allowed to talk about Yos here :silent: but App store upgrades have always worked so far with Mav.

I am not sure why, but for me the audio injection via the HDAIDT kext does not seem to be working.

So at the moment I suggest removing the kext from S/L/E and instead using the attached.

Please note attached kext has no functional audio input, but the output sounds fine on my hifi and does not seem to be dependent on sys preferences being open/closed. YMMV as they say....

I am also putting together a simpler Clover installation guide (i.e. one that includes doing a from scratch install) that I'll be posting as part of a User Build log. I have done my own install process so many times now (!) due to playing around with systems etc that I think the process might be worth setting down for others.

BTW, There seems to be no need anymore to patch the Azulframebuffer (either in Clover, or by terminal patch) as everything works just fine without it on current Mavericks versions.

WD feel free to try out the AppleHDA.kext on your installs. :)
