10.8.5 doesn't support the ud4h?
the color scheme would go so much better in my build..
Please can anyone tell me if there is any incompatibility?

Yes, the UD4H is fully compatible with 10.8.5 Just note that the pic on
Amazon.com is not accurate. It shows what is supposed to be the UD4H
with blue colored (striped) heat sinks, that is actually a pic of the UD3H.

If you want the UD3H Newegg has the best price right now.

Thanks for pointing that out  I was looking at the CustoMac Pro builds and not the full list.

Looks like the only difference between UD3H and UD4H is that the latter supports
2-way SLI. Everything else (chipsets, controllers etc.) is exactly the same.

The Newegg link to the GA-H87N-WIFI goes to the H77 instead.

Fixed! Thanks for finding that.

Good round-up, thanks as always! :)

What I find very interesting in the difference between Haswell and Ivy Bridge is that although I'm sure the internals are massively redesigned to improve performance, this improvement still comes at the expense of more power input.

For example, most Ivy Bridge CPUs (apart from low-power models) consumed 77-watts, whereas the Haswells above appear to consume 84-watts.

The power consumption goes up 10% ... for how much performance gain for the user?

And of course the heat produced needs to be expelled - a larger cooling fan? Of are they just designed to run hotter?

As I say, interesting stuff!! :)

Love your monthly guides, but why not cover the BRIX or Nuc series barebones too? Either would make great Mac Mini substitutes.

Your monitor is connect via vga, dvi or hdmi?
OS X does not support VGA connected monitors out of the box. It is possible to make it work, but it requires patching the frame buffer and is only recommended for advanced users.

With 10.8.5, does it mean I do not need Haswell Helper when using Unibeast on my Z87X Mobo and Haswell chip ?
