Asus Z690 ProArt Creator WiFi (Thunderbolt 4) + i7-12700K + AMD RX 6800 XT

My Asus ProArt z790 Creator WIFI motherboard was produced in December 2022 with the BIOS 0704. When i finished my PC assembly,I first installed the Windows 11 pro and check the BIOS update in the ASUS official web site, but did not find new BIOS to update. At present, I found my macOS won't go to normal sleep.
I have noticed that my Corsair RAM becomes unstable when running at high frequency 6200 with XMP enabled. I had to lower the memory frequency to 6000. I don't know if it's a memory issue or a motherboard bios issue. I found that the new bios update has improved memory compatibility, I will test it.
Yeah, I've noticed long sleep/wake times with mine too (roughly 30-40 seconds both sleep and wake).
Tested with mainly 0704, XMP Off/On at speeds, 4800, 5000 and 5600. SMBIOS iMacPro 1,1.

Also tested with 0814, XMP ON - 5600 and 5000, sleep seems the same (Will test XMP OFF soon).

Swapped over to SMBIOS MacPro 7,1 with XMP On 5600/5000 and sleep results the same (Will also test XMP OFF soon).

How long does it take your machine to sleep/wake?

I think that the macOS sleep problem has nothing to do with the memory frequency and whether XMP is turned on or not. It is probably related to ACPI. I'll then look into regenerating the ACPI-related config files to see if that fixes the issue. After all, we are now using the old ACPI profile of the Asus ProArt z690 motherboard.

Those sleep/wake times are still within the normal range. Waking up should typically be faster than falling asleep.

@biuti,

Please try the attached test build of AppleALC with Layout 13. Found a problem with front-panel microphone input on my system and this version fixes it. All these inputs are working now:
  • Rear pink microphone
  • Rear blue line-in
  • Front microphone
Sorry for the delay in reporting... I had AppleALC AND AppleALCU in my kext folder (somehow the latter got automatically included when I updated to 0.8.8 and not sure why) and as a result NO analog audio was functional.

Anyway, I just went ahead and used your new AppleALC (completely removing the "U") and I have full front/back input/output with mics and headphones. I did NOT test c/Sub or Rear jacks, but they must work b/c I have multiple "Line Outs" in preferences.

To test the null hypothesis it would be great if the original version of AppleALC can be tested with Layout ID 13. We're specifically checking if rear and front microphone inputs work.

I tested both the original and new AppleALC.kext you created with a Polsen MO-PL1 Lav and I was not able to get audio in on either rear mic jack or front panel with either kext. The lav works on iPhone/iPad with adapter, but I'm assuming this is a power issue.

Even with the latest BIOS (0814) and XMP on the z790 won't post.

Oddly even when I unplug the 10G cable system instantly wakes up from sleep but the power on status is blinking.

@CaseySJ and others wanted to say thank you for a great work, got the z790 almost perfectly working.

Of course, sorry about that...

Well, hmm;

On my system, I get exactly the same results with the AppleALC v1.7.8 dated March 7, 2022 (I believe received from my HackinDROM update from your 0.8.3 EFI-->0.8.8) to your AppleALC v1.7.9 dated January 3, 2023 (downloaded from this thread just a few posts ago). I've only been using Layout ID 13.

Same results specifically means; Rear GREEN works, front Headphone works, front MIC works, rear pink MIC works, rear light blue LINE IN works. Only curious thing is "Line In" changes to "Internal Microphone" when the pink rear is populated with a plug. Then it changes to having TWO "Line In" items only when the light blue LINE IN is populated with a plug -- but that is probably consistent with how a real Mac would do it.

Hope that helps,
J

Thanks, that's very helpful. It's possible that on some computer cases the front panel microphone jack is very finicky, which is why some folks are reporting front microphone issues and others are not...
