[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

iMacPro1,1 hasn't helped with the backgrounds, and I found it actually seems to be HEIC decoding that's glitching, the same artifacts appear when opening the files in Preview (though not in Affinity). HEIC photos from iPhone are fine, but all HEIC previews load super slow (png, jpg et cetera are fine). Definitely something HEIC related.

I can't just stay at an older OS version, so I'll stick with it and use other backgrounds for now. Fortunately don't use HEIC files for work so can ignore them for now.

EDIT: Also checked HEVC/H265 videos and previews in Finder are slow for these as well, but no problem with Quicklook or QuickTime Player (HEIC pictures are glitchy in Quicklook, Preview and Finder).

I never updated to the capsule BIOS on my Z390, but for those who did and regret it, it looks like a user over at win-raid has written a guide on how to downgrade. Again, I offer no user experience with this and proceed at your own risk!
@CaseySJ -Not sure if it's appropriate to provide this link, please delete the post if it's against forum rules.

That's a great find and safer than using a CH341a external programmer. When I say "safer" I should add that even this procedure, based on Intel's Flash Programming Tool or FPT, carries some risk as mentioned in the article. But at least it provides a sound alternative.

Will link this to Post 1.

  • Yes
  • Clover Configurator
  • No one except the macOS
  • F9i

    Thanks
I tried a cold boot, I got to the OpenCore Picker, I selected my macOS drive, and it started.
Then, I copied the EFI into my main disk.
After copying the EFI folder from EFI partition of USB flash disk to EFI partition of internal SSD, did you eject/remove the USB flash disk?

I restarted. I got the OpenCore Picker, and it was supposed to run automatically macOS instead the system restarted.
We cannot make this assumption. OpenCore Picker will start the disk that is selected in System Preferences --> Startup Disk. We can also press and hold CTRL key while selecting a boot disk in OpenCore Picker to make it the default.

It got back to the BIOS splash, then I got a string line on the top left corner, then to the Apple logo, and slowly loaded to get into macOS Utilities.
That is actually the Recovery disk, not macOS Utilities. Nevertheless, the error message on screen is for table DMAR. Simply follow the procedure to disable AppleVTD, located here:

@CaseySJ A warning for people who want to update to MacOS 12.3 in combination with an AMD Graphics card (at least the 6000 series):

I will wait with updating till it is solved by Apple.

Has anyone had any experience with this one? I had a crash of WindowServer log me out, and then the next day this popped up on me, and at the same time my Bluetooth went out until I rebooted.

This should disappear on next boot. It has happened to several of us.

Can confirm, having this exact issue - iMac Pro 1,1 w/ 5700xt - OC 0.7.9

It's not just a lower GB score issue, the whole graphics pipeline seems to struggle under any reasonable load. Unfortunately this has made my machine pretty unusable. Is there any known solution other than rolling back?

Edit - I have found a temporary solution that works for me - there's an old SSDT over in this thread that appears to restore most of the performance, at least I can get some work done now! - https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...with-macos-monterey-12-3-update.319404/page-2

@CaseySJ,

1. Yes
2. ok
3. I disabled Apple VTD, the string disappeared, but still, it gets backs to BIOS splash and then into recovery.

Just one note, my OpenCore was made converting from Clover, and it was made following your guide.

Sorry!

I've also added this SSDT and it seems to have fixed everything. I found other SSDTs for 5700 XT too and now I'm curious if it would be possible to optimize the system more.

Which partition are you selecting when F12-booting from the USB-stick? 0 or 1?
