Seems like something is wrong with the AMDRadeonX6000GL / ML Drivers

Just tried and it crashs with my config:
Big Sur 11.2 Beta (20D5029f)
i9900KF
SAPPHIRE Nitro+ Radeon RX 5700 XT
iMacPro1,1
OC 0.6.5

The problem is still there after upgrading to macOS 11.2.

After encountering the crash just now with 11.2, I sent the crash report to Apple. So let's see what happens in 11.3!

This problem seems to be specific to AMD NAVI GPUs (5000 series).

let's see if apple solves this :beachball:

Note - This is fixed I believe, see update at the bottom of the post

I had a working configuration for months on Mojave and dual boot to windows, I then had a unrelated software issue and decided to upgrade to Catalina, I didn't like it, tried to revert back to Mojave, accidentally wiped my hdd, gave up and went to windows to play some games for a few months..

I started again yesterday and I am having odd behavior where I have no boot priorities in BIOS and can only get to the OC boot picker & Mojave if I have the USB plugged in..

Steps taken:

1) Created USB with 0.6.5 / Mojave from CaseyJ mini guide;
2) Upgraded BIOS to F9i;
3) Unplugged all hard drives so only the NVMe drive is plugged into M2M slot;
4) Followed the BIOS steps in post 1 titled "Spoiler: Firmware F8 and Newer";
5) Installed OC via USB successfully; and
6) Unplug USB and problems start

    • Press F2 to toggle to Advanced Mode.
    • Press F7 to Load Optimized Defaults.
    Now make the following settings:
    • Tweaker
      • Advanced CPU Settings → VT-d → Disabled
      • Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P.) → Profile 1
    • Settings
      • Internal Graphics → Enabled
      • Above 4G Decoding → Enabled
      • Thunderbolt(TM) Configuration
        • Security Level → No Security
          This will trigger a 'Save & Exit' dialog so press ESC to close the dialog.
        • Discrete Thunderbolt(TM) Configuration
          • Thunderbolt USB Support → Enabled
          • GPIO3 Force Pwr → Enabled
      • USB Configuration
        • XHCI Handoff → Enabled
    • Boot
      • Windows 8/10 Features → Other OS
      • CSM Support → Disabled
        Some devices such as GPUs may require CSM Support to be enabled. There is no harm in setting this to either Enabled or Disabled. Use the setting that works best.
    • Save & Exit → Save Profiles → Save to Profile 1
      This preserves the firmware settings for easy recovery.

    Other BIOS settings I have tried turning off and on:
    CFG Lock - Enabled/disabled _ I found I needed to have it disabled even to boot to mojave from the usb
    CSM Support - Enabled/Disabled (and have tried Legacy and UEFI for storage boot and other PCI)
    Windows 8/10 Features - I've tried Other OS, Windows 8/10 and Windows 8/10 WHQL

    If I select CSM Enabled I atleast get my adata NVME drive listed but if I select it, i get two cursor flashes and into BIOS.
    IF I go with the settings from just post 1 and F12 - I get nothing listed, just 1 blank line and 'Enter setup'
    IF I select 'Load optimised defaults'

    Note - No matter what settings, the NVME drive is listed under Settings > IO Ports > NVME Configuration. So I know the hdd is fine.
    Note - If I press F2/Basic mode in BIOS, Boot Sequence lists 'Adata SX8200PNP' and 'OpenCore' when CSM is enabled but if disable CSM it only lists 'OpenCore', changing the order of these (when CSM enabled) does not help the problem.

    To be honest I don't know if I had the bios settings from post 1 exact when I installed off the usb (I've been mucking around with this for hours) so I am close to starting again from scratch but I thought I would ask if there is a specific bios setting that might be causing these issues?
Edit/fixed - That is weird, I went into Mojave via the usb, mounted the nvme to check the EFI folder and it had none of the OC stuff in there... I copied over the efi folder from the USB and now I have boot priorities back and I'm able to boot in successfully without the usb....

Tempted to delete this post but I'll leave it here in case anyone has any opinions and in case it helps anyone else

Maybe this is normal, I created a bootable backup of Mojave, tested it and it worked. I made the switch from Clover to Opencore and the system boots fine, but when I try the bootable backup I made it doesn't boot. Any ideas?
@CaseySJ

Anyone have any ideas on this?

Hello @chris77555,

Welcome to the forum. However, I have to caution you very strongly against flashing the Thunderbolt firmware. At the top of the Z490 Vision D build guide, we have this note/warning:

I know you have an Apple Thunderbolt Display, but it is very old now and there are lots of wonderful 27-inch monitors on the market today at very competitive prices. They offer HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.2/1.4, and even USB-C. Some have speakers and USB hubs built in.

Thunderbolt monitors are very unreliable on a Hackintosh. There are too many user complaints, which is why I added that note (NOTE 8c).

Additionally, flashing the Thunderbolt firmware is a risky operation and should only be done by experienced users.

I know it's tempting and even exciting to try and flash the Thunderbolt firmware, but I believe this is not a justified reason for doing so.
Thank you Casey. It looks more reasonable to bye another one!
