[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Hi Casey,

Im having similar trouble with 3 monitors, but with a 5700 XT. I tried this fix but it doesn't seem to have the same result. Any suggestions on things I could tweak to make this work for my GPU?

Thanks!

@ralphonz,
  • Can you offer any suggestions for RX 5700 XT owners?
  • Where did you find the solution for RX 5xx?

I actually found the fake device ID for the RX550 over on insanely mac :) I wish I could take the credit. Unfortunately there was no information about how to OP found that ID.

In system info do you see metal support listed for the card when only using one monitor? Although my RX550 was working with one monitor, system info didn't list the correct info, EFI driver or VRAM. Once I'd found the right device ID this all changed. However, if you're seeing system info already populated with the correct values and still having issues, then it's probably something else.

From my research I'd have expected the RX5700 to work although most likely you'll need to fake the ID. Google turns up plenty of results, I'm sure you'll get it working with a little digging!

Because you're on an early build of Catalina, the best guide to update to latest Catalina is this:

Thanks! I didn't notice this guide before. In efforts to understand better - in this guide we are creating a usb-EFI with no OS, that we use to boot into our current build (10.15.2) where we can update using the combo updates. correct?

Afterwards, I assume we have to make the same EFI changes we made to the USB to our internal EFI as "post installation"?

Hello All,
I‘ve encounter a problem trying to play League of Legends on my system. I just installed it. When I launch the game, it goes the to stats window (the window that has your progress, news, item shop, etc.) and then my system stalls with rainbow beach ball. I can still move my mouse and switch apps, but I cannot execute commands. Mouse clicks don’t register and keyboard does not respond. There is no way to force quit. Activity monitor is frozen. I tested my system and tried playing other games, into the breach and rock smith work, but a hard nope for LOL. Only way for me to get my system back is for a hard reset/power down.
What can I do to try to fix this? I originally followed the guide to install Catalina using Clover, have updated Catalina to latest OS, have NVram enabled, shiva=80, all iCloud services work... any insight would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Argh. I can only boot with the optimised default settings in BIOS. All my tweaked BIOS settings lead to the dreaded prohibited sign.

Well. Wipe BIOS. Boot to optimised default settings. Redo BIOS settings. Has anyone posted his settings, BTW?

Hello everyone,
Hello @CaseySJ

Any ways to know if this mouse (New Razer Naga Pro) would display on the UEFI/BIOS screen or on the Clover Screen ?
To be more Precise, how would you know if an hardware is compatible and can be used on Clover screen ?

I need this to switch Between Windows and Mac.

Thank you very much,
Have a nice day

Any Thought on this ? Thank you

Hey All,

I have this build almost exactly as described in the Catalina installation guide... I have 0 issues with all functionality in this build including TB3 with one exception: I use this machine mainly for music production and I have various USB Midi keyboards and synthesizers all working perfectly. One device which I recently purchased is the Irijule Theoryboard.

Now, this device, when I plug it in via USB and use it for a few minutes, as I press the many keys (some for single notes, other keys for full chords) eventually the USB Bus LOCKS UP completely. All devices on the bus are no longer accessible, but the machine is still up and running fine (if a movie is playing, it will continue playing / any notes that were being keyed will continue playing / any apps or processes that were previously running will do so). The machine is effectively up and running fine except the USB bus becomes LOCKED / HUNG. This happens no matter where I plug the device (USB2, USB3, RED/ORANGE ports, attached hubs, etc).

This also occurred when I was running Mojave (this same build thread) and then on two different versions of Catalina it continues to happen as well.

Is there a tool for debugging USB port issues, also a way to reset the USB bus without a hard-reboot? It's the only way for me to get the machine back after USB becomes borked. Maybe a compatibility flag to soften the blow on the USB BUS when a lockup like this is imminent? If any detailed information is needed, please ask away.

Your thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

Thanks.

Yes that's correct:
  • We're enabling native NVRAM
  • We're updating OpenCore
  • We're updating kexts and drivers
  • Then we boot from the new EFI
  • And we start the existing Catalina version
  • Then we begin an upgrade through System Preferences --> Software Update

Please enable verbose to determine the cause of the prohibited sign. Is it "Couldn't Allocate Runtime Area"?

According to the Razer website, the mouse supports 3 modes of connection:
  • Razer™ HyperSpeed Wireless
  • Wired - Speedflex Cable
  • Bluetooth
Bluetooth connection may not work in BIOS, but these two might. If the SpeedFlex Cable is USB, then it should most likely work.

Fortunately we went through this type of issue a little while ago and created this guide as a result:
