[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

CC: @kellymac12 @bmoney @brousseau6933 @boob @verendus @evithoma @CaseySJ

Currently having the freeze regular now within 10mins or so.. with below setup:

Using Audirvana with UAD Apollo 8 TB3 playing music from my external Lacie USB drive USB3.
(USB3 & USB 3.1 ports available on the drive)

When I have the freeze I can see that the Mac is Ejecting the USB every time as I'm given the little warning window.
Is it worth trying to log or use an app to try to identify a culprit or find something to at least? If so please let me know what's best and what to do? TIA
Do you suspect that the problem lies with USB? If you copy some of those music files from LaCie to an internal SSD and play them from the internal SSD, do the same freezes still occur?

Try shutting down and unplugging the computer for a minute or so and see if that helps. Though not a solution, I had less frequent freezes after doing this which was usually after booting from windows.

Yup - I've noticed the same thing. I experienced far fewer and less frequent USB freezes when I was going into Windows then rebooting back into OSX. Although, I'm not sure if the correlation was from booting into windows, or the actual act of rebooting - probably rebooting if I had to guess - it also may be entire coincidental too.

@CaseySJ No problem! I also noticed ASUS has released its own Thunderbolt Titan Ridge card https://www.asus.com/Motherboard-Accessories/THUNDERBOLTEX-3-TR, I wonder if it's going to be compatible with Z390/X299 as well, even though those aren't on the QVL.

Interesting enough, this one is also compatible with some AMD motherboards.
Amazon has the new GC-Titan Ridge Rev 2.0... (USD $98.99)

I think I am almost done, thanks to this most-excellent guide! Here's what I have:
  • Designaire Z390
  • i9-9900K
  • Samsung M.2 1TB drive hosting Mojave 10.14.6 only.
  • 32GB DDR4 3600
  • AMD RX480 8GB (works natively, but I installed SSDT-Z390-Desinaire-RX580-V2.aml. Tried with and without, both cases seem to work fine). Old GPU, but I don't game or anything like that.
So far, everything including iServices works well, except my UBS microphones. The audio input can be distorted or even cause the recording application to crash. I've searched and searched, but no joy. Any ideas? Thanks!
