[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Please mount EFI partition of the USB install disk, open the CLOVER folder, expand the “drivers/UEFI” or “drivers64UEFI” folder, and post a screenshot. Also check if “slide=0” is selected in Clover Configurator —> Boot Arguments.

Lastly, when you boot the system with USB install disk, press spacebar at the Clover Boot Menu, use arrow keys to move down to “Verbose” and press spacebar again to toggle it on. Then press Escape and boot the Mojave installer.

This will enable startup and shutdown logging on screen.
@CaseySJ Here is a copy of my EFI Folder and a copy of my config.plist file to verify "slide=0" is turn on. Also, attached the output w/ verbose logging. Couple questions/notes as well:

1. Previously loaded Promox on my system, but then used Window Installer (Diskpart) to clean drives. Will this impact my install?
2. Started a Catalina Install, but failed to go to your "real" installation directions and USB disk directions. This was corrected today.
3. Read through/followed directions for USB installer (checked three times over) and got the output attached to this message.

What am I missing?

Are you installing Mojave or Catalina, or are you upgrading to Catalina from Mojave?

Your drivers/UEFI folder contains two memory drivers. Only one is allowed. This is explained in the Mojave build guide and there are many screenshots in that guide against which to compare one’s own folders.

@CaseySJ I followed the Plan C and boot Clover from the USB flash disk, then tried booting Catalina but got exactly same error :(. Any ideas?
How did you copy RtVariables and SMBIOS from old config.plist to config-AMD-GPU.plist?

I used beyond compare on Macbook Pro
Let’s check some prerequisites:
  • Is MSR 0xE2 unlocked?
  • Is Clover 5107/5108 installed on USB flash disk?
  • Are you pressing F12 at BIOS splash screen to select the USB disk?
  • Have you confirmed that the drivers/UEFI folder and kexts/Other and ACPI/patched are all correct?

I am installing Catalina(fresh install on new hardware). I was following your directions and was looking for the ApitoMemoryFix-64.efi ,but it was not there. Is this a difference between Mojave and Catalina?

There’s a substantial difference in fresh-installation procedure between the two. Catalina 10.15.4 can only be installed by following the 10.15.4 mini-guide that is linked to the very top of Post #1, just under the photograph.

@CaseySJ If you have the time, perhaps you could double check my EFI folder just I case I'm missing something or have done something wrong with it - that would be AMAZING! I think it's fine, but maybe I've done something wrong - who knows....I removed the IDs and serials from the plist SMBIOS section.

EDIT:

Also, I've tried my WIFI/BT in the bottom x1 slot and bottom x16 slot - both seem to work the same. Is there a reason that it should be in the bottom x1 slot?

After more troubleshooting and investigation I’ve narrowed all my long standing freezing issues to my monitors as part of my graphics setup.

Regardless of the the graphics card (tried 2 different 5700 xt and an RX580) the system will freeze when using either of my 4K monitors.

What I know now:

  • I cannot get the system to system to freeze when I only have my older 1080p monitor plugged in. This works from the DisplayPort to DVI adapter or HDMI to DVI cable.

  • My system will always freeze with just one of my 2 4K screens plugged in by HDMI to HDMI or by displayport to displayport.

  • if I lower the resolution on the 4K screen, it takes a little longer to freeze.

  • if I use an adapter cable (DP to HDMI) instead of HDMI to HDMI or DP to DP it takes even longer to freeze.

  • if I use an adapter cable and lower the resolution it takes even even longer (the longest) to freeze.
  • if I use some Frankenstein adapter setup (DP to dvi to HDMI) I get a max 1080p resolution, no audio pass through etc, then it never freezes.
So here I am wondering if it’s just my screens, or bad OS/graphics drivers, or WEG, or maybe the audio part of the signal messing things up.

What is the make/model of the two monitors? Do they support DisplayPort MST (multi stream transport)? If so, ensure that SST (single stream transport) is enabled, which prevents daisy-chaining of the monitors.
