[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Happy to report that installation went well! I decided to risk it last night, and I didn't have any problems. I appreciate your replies though! (Now I know I don't have to extensively test all the features)
some TV's don't function well as computer monitors. you have nothing to lose to try it, though. I have used a couple of TV's successfully as monitors.
the other alternative is to check you local goodwill stores for monitors. the ones around here usually have a few for sale and they are normally $10-15.

My next question (it's my first hackintosh after all) is what are the next steps? I followed the guide to enable the use of native NVRAM (it works) and started making the necessary changes to allow proper functionality of professional apps (at the moment I'm stuck on the last 2 points: specify platform id with WEG and Lilu /Whatevergreen). Not sure what I'm supposed to do here.

I would also really appreciate if someone could point me to a good guide of properly setting up dual boot with windows (I already have an SSD with fully functional windows and personal/work files, so ideally I would like to install it in the available nvme slot and start using right away ;)

Please note:
  • If you followed the Catalina Mini-Guide, then your system is already set up for Professional Apps. So nothing to do!
  • See this spoiler in Post #1 for details on installing Windows and thus having a dual-boot system.

There is a "Spoiler" in post 1 of this thread on what you must do. Just follow that, making sure you put the Windows drive in the correct M2 slot.

Thank you again @CaseySJ
This is such a busy thread and you take time to reply to everyone.

Follow up question: So yeah I did follow the mini guide and everything looks good including the PCI page BUT anything connected to either Thuderbolt ports doesn't show up at all. I've tried a LG USB-C monitor, USB-C drive so far. Could it be hardware problem?

Hello @safehans,

If you installed Catalina using the Mini-Guide, please see Note 1:View attachment 454195

Because you posted the PCI page, we can confirm that Thunderbolt is working correctly.

This may be due to a BIOS setting, namely:
  • Thunderbolt --> Thunderbolt Security --> No Security.
Please check this first.

** Thunderbolt Bus/Local Node Interim Update **

@Elias64Fr has modified the native Thunderbolt firmware on the Designare Z390 -- similar to the DSM2 modified firmware for GC-Titan Ridge! Most of the core functionality is operational, but some final issues remain with XHC (USB) controller.

I would be willing to put it on my AIC Titian ridge if you like just to see what it does.

Yeah It's set to No Security.
USB-C devices may not connect because most USB-C cables only support USB 2.0, which has been disabled intentionally. You can, however, connect USB-C devices with a Thunderbolt 3 cable. But best thing is, of course, to connect an actual Thunderbolt 3 device. Some USB-C monitors might not work.

Oh really? That's strange. Couldn't really figure that out from the mini guide. I flashed bios (firmware) already, because that 5000+ bytes variable was 0x1... Do I need to change it back to the previous state?

If you followed the Catalina Mini-Guide, then your system is already set up for Professional Apps. So nothing to do!
