[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

I have a an older Silver Apollo Duo with a new TB3 card in it and an Octo Satellite box with TB2. Sometimes I also plug in a newer Apollo x8 which works the same way also - hot swap etc. I have plugged them in in parallel on the 2 thunderbolt ports on the back, and as a daisy chain from one Thunderbolt port and both ways seems to work fine, although I am using the recommended daisy chain method. The Octo Satellite uses an Apple TB2 to TB3 adapter. I also tested a QUAD PCIE card which works fine, but that lives in an older Z97 hack In another room.

Cool. That's from the Thunderbolt 3 card in the x8 -the thing about the Arrow is that there's no power switch, so it's always on. So, you're hanging the Satellite off of the x8? The TB2 audio devices are a different animal. And one can't swap out the TB2 card in the newer Apollo 8 for a Firewire 800. Now this is starting to make sense. -My FW400 Digidesign 003R loads perfectly regardless of boot sequence.

The Quad PCIe cards are awesome and that'd be my choice over any Thunderbolt interface.

But which audio interface model are you using, and how is it connected? TB 2<TB 3 or TB 3 all the way w/o dongles?

I cannot be this dumb, sorry! I checked in grub again and indeed MSR was locked. I performed the steps described in the mini guide and now the variable is equal to 0x00. I really do remembering checking before going back into the OS. Don't know what happened to me. Thanks again and sorry for the inconvenience!

From my recent experience, you are not dumb. I had to reset the MSR 4 times before it would stay set. Each time I carefully followed the instructions and each time it reported the variable as 0x00. On boot back to Windows, with consequent adjustments to BIOS it somehow reset itself to 0x01. Finally replaced EFI folder with a working one and solved the problem but was curious as to how a variable that cannot be set by normal methods could revert.

However it now works and I have just updated to Catalina 10.15.3. Curiously 4 boots with each progress bar looking as though it had stopped. Finally a bar with time that actually counted down correctly and then black screen as the monitor decided to go to sleep claiming no input. A keypress or two and voilà...

Not sure I follow you. To clarify: I’m using TB2 and TB3 UAD devices with my TB3 ports on this build. No issues In any way of hooking things up. I can hookup the satellite with tb2 through a TB2 to TB3 adapter directly to the TB3 ports on the motherboard without the x8 which is TB3 or the silver Apollo with a new TB3 card in it. None of the devices are dependent on any of the others to work with this board, but they do all work together in any hookup config. I don’t find any difference in functionality between the TB2 or TB3 audio devices.

TB1 devices do not work with this board‘s TB3 ports though. That’s the only thing that does not.

Make sense?

About XHC2, I have same result with normal operating of USB3.1Gen2 like you can see on my previous Log (Plug/Unplug)

Thanks for your Catalina installation guide. I followed your guide with most of the recommended hardware. Everything works fine except Airplay and Sidecar. I can Airplay to my homepod but fail to Airplay to my Apple TV. When I try to Airplay to Apple TV or Sidecar to my iPad Pro (2018 version), they just go to black screen. Any idea how to solve it? Is it related to the nvram.plist in the EFI folder (I haven’t copied the nvram.plist to the EFI folder)?

in case of you have XHC2 (under DSB2) shared with XHC (main USB), you have to do same test as @CaseySJ Here with Results Here
Also, you confirm that your motherboard is ASRock Z390 Phantom ?
 
Hello, I've followed the instructions listed with one exception, UniBeast was not behaving and only copying 5kb/s. So I created the installation media through Terminal instead. Anyways, I have a 9700K, Designare, Samsung 970. I got the system booted,. I'm just running intigrated graphics until AMD releases the RDNA2 card that supposedly smokes the 2080 Ti. Sleep isn't working and hardware acceleration is not working. I've tried several methods including the Hackintool guide outlined here, and most result in a black screen half way through the boot. Also, as an aside, is it possible to get a module to pop into the slot for the WiFi card on the Designare. I don't really care about Bluetooth. But it would be sweet to not have another PCI card.
 
Even After Following every step got the error while booting directly from Catalina SSD Drive. Share the Screenshot for the same.

Please Help me out
