[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

@CaseySJ hello again¡¡ today i installed again a older version 10.14.5 Mojave...and i have the same problem..i dont understand..i checked the same dock in other computer(macbook 2015) and its work good..any idea?thx¡¡¡
In a previous post, did you say that:
  • You have 2 identical docks.
  • One dock always works correctly (normal transfer speed and no lockup).
  • But other dock regularly fails.
Is this correct?
  • If you copy big files from Dock 1 to an internal SATA or NVMe SSD, does the system lock up?
  • If you copy big files from Dock 2 to an internal SATA or NVMe SSD, does the system lock up?
  • Does the system only lock up when copying files from Dock 1 to Dock 2?

Yes its correct, but yesterday a friend has left me another dock to check it and i have same problem witch new dock(let's call dock 2)but when test it in macbook i dont have this problem, its works good..
Today i installed again mojave(10.14.5)and same problem..
i tested:

-copy files to dock 1 to dock 2 and freeze
-dock 2 to dock 1 freeze
-internal drive to dock 2 freeze
-internal drive to dock 1 and works good...

but I insist in macbook works good...last year had another mobo in high sierra(aorus z370 gaming 7) and it worked fine...
I don't know if I did something wrong with the installation i dont know....

@shivakrishna

Just a quick note:

This build guide should work with most Gigabyte Z390 boards, but the USB and Thunderbolt SSDTs are only for the Designare Z390. This guide will be most effective if you use the Designare Z390 motherboard. All other components (memory, GPU, CPU cooler, power supply, NVMe SSD, etc.) are fairly interchangeable.

UPDATE: In general, we should choose a card that is as close to the AMD Reference design as possible. The PowerColor Radeon RX 580 Red Dragon is a good choice. if you look at my signature below, you'll see that I'm using Powercolor RX 580 and Powercolor RX 5700 XT.

If am not wrong your talking about these Graphics Cards:
1 . https://www.microcenter.com/product...-dragon-dual-fan-8gb-gddr5-pcie-30-video-card
2. https://www.microcenter.com/product...ocked-triple-fan-8gb-gddr6-pcie-40-video-card.

Please let me know, I think am good to go with Power Color Radeon RX 580, which is just 170 USD.

Thanks
Shiva

I have these cards:
  • RX 580 is the PowerColor Red Devil
  • RX 5700 XT is the PowerColor Red Dragon
Both have been very reliable.

Have you tried moving Dock 2 to a different USB port? Does it work in some ports (such as the red or yellow ones) but not in other ports?

I think RX 580 is the PowerColor 580 Red Dragon rather than RED Devil, and

RX 5700 XT is the PowerColor Red Devil rather than Red Dragon.

Thanks.

Both of those are good. The cheaper RX 580 is surprisingly powerful. Unless you're using GPU-intensive applications/games, I would recommend the RX 580.

Please see his previous post here:
That change has now been incorporated into the OpenCore Mini-Guide.
OK, now with working NVRAM, it is quite easy to set the default startup disk for OC in "system preferences".
Thank you

Awesome.

By the way, does anyone have a preference between standard OpenCore (acidanthera) or the n-d-k fork of OpenCore?

I plan to update the OpenCore Mini-Guide this weekend, and have been debating whether or not to switch to the n-d-k fork.

@CaseySJ Thank you for this thread and the guides you have compiled. I have successfully used the Catalina Clover mini guide to set up my Hackintosh. So far, everything seems to work (knock on wood). I kept the Bios to my Designare to F6 (came that way). I'm using a NXZT 4-port internal USB splitter to connect my FV-T919 network card. I'm still setting everything up and will be back it anything goes astray. Honestly, I both was excited for a new hackintosh, but dreaded the install process from my previous Hack. This one is going so much beer than before, all to the thanks of your guides!
I do have two question though, 1.) going forward are Hacks leaning towards OpenCore over Clover? The reason I went with Clover was because the OpenCore guide had the warning of "this is still in beta" and "only for experience Hackintosher" (I'm paraphrasing). And 2.) why would I need two ethernet ports? Do I plug them both in to get twice the network speed? Honestly I don't know.
Thanks!
