[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

I gave this ago a few minutes ago and am about to test it to see if I am still having freeze issues. You are right in that I have lost 2 of my Display Port PORTS and had to move my cable to a third port for it to show something once rebooted.
So far so good. No freezes as yet.

Followup-Post:
The Saffire Pro 40 does work, however only kind of. I would NOT recommend it it as for now. Having crackles and pops even at minimal CPU usage! (keeping you up to date!)
@Admins: should I move this to another thread? (since it is more FW & Audio related)

What app were you using the Pro40 with? Have you tried using a PCIE firewire card? I used my Saffire Pro40 with a TI firewire card and got no pops or crackles under macOS. I also have the tb3 to tb2 adapter and TB to FireWire adapters, but haven't tried it with those.

Wanted to take a moment and say Thank You to @CaseySJ and all the Hackintoshers present and past who have helped in this forum you all are the bee's knees lmao. (aint going anywhere just wanted to say thanks haha)

Thanks for troubleshooting and being the support to get my build up and running and working with no issues.
Unless I'm missing something I haven't found anything that isn't working. Feel free to ask me to test something I'm more than glad to try to find something that isn't working.

You all as a community and everyone in this thread super DOPE
Hello WhosMac, I am just wondering why you have attached Geekbench screenshots of your system with the older version of Geekbench and then the newer version. Did you make system changes showing the differences in performance or is Geekbench simply giving two seperate results for the two versions. I am just curious as my system performance results look similar to yours using the newer version of Geekbench. I am hoping to get some advice on performance improvements.

So it looks like your issue was being caused by WEG as well then. Glad to hear you haven't had any more freezing! This is def something to mention for fixes for WEG, I am def going to look into sending debug info as @iLikeHackintosh suggested. As for the multiple Score I just wanted to give reference points on the different versions @Lukey1979 I just got my build running well, as for more performance improvements I am still looking for more as well.

I welcome any and all possible improvements, @iLikeHackintosh suggested "AMD GPU’s require an additional boot flag shikigva=128, which enables hardware FairPlay decoder."

currently did not have this so will be putting in as boot flag as well.

So...you went with the iMac Pro 1.1 vs iMac 19.1. Could I ask why and are you on Opencore or Clover? Sleep?

As the post below mentioned and from looking at different builds felt to get the most performance out of the GPU would be setting as iMac Pro 1,1 also had seen many mentions of iMac Pro 1,1 having less things needing to be tweaked to get working without issue.

As for Bootloader I am using newest Clover build, I made a 3rd CCC to test OpenCore, but from what I saw def need a little bit more knowledge than I've currently read thru so reading more then will most likely attempt.
Why do you ask?

As for sleep, I haven't tested extensively, I normally want access to the computer remotely or for Media server so the computer isn't set to sleep without me shutting down or putting to sleep outside of displays sleeping. When I have put it to sleep it will stay powered down I have noticed it sounds like it powers on but monitors or input don't kick unless I move the mouse to power it back on fully to lock screen.

I do already have the shikigva boot flag although mine is set to shikigva=32 as you can see by my attached screenshot. I have no idea what this means. These settings are exactly as they were in the Mini Guide for doing a clean install of Catalina. The only difference being, I replaced the Designare .aml patches with the .aml patches for the Gigabyte Aorus Xtreme motherboard. I have made no other POST INSTALL amendments.

Please read WEG documentation when and which shikigva boot flag to use.

The CLOVER folder you posted earlier looks fine, so the problem is most likely elsewhere.
  • USB ports are defined in the CLOVER folder (ACPI/patched, to be exact) and the ports are okay.
  • Because the system is stable under Windows, there's no reason to suspect hardware.
  • But there may be a reason to suspect things like:
    • The macOS NVMe SSD. What is the make/model of the SSD?
    • Any changes made to the operating system after it was installed.
  • Are the freezes always occurring in some application such as Google Chrome?
  • Do the freezes occur if you leave the system alone for some time?
For truly random freezes, my advice is always something like this:
  • Obtain a low-cost SATA SSD (128GB or 256GB) and an external USB 3.0 enclosure (such as this one).
  • Install fresh copy of Catalina on the external SATA SSD.
    • Use new serial numbers just as specified in the Catalina Mini-Guide.
  • When installation is done, do not sign in to iCloud.
  • Do not install any of your apps.
  • Do not copy any of your documents.
  • Just boot from the external SATA SSD and use the standard macOS built-in apps for a couple of days.
    • Is the system stable?
Hey Just an update !
I found the issue with the total random freezes. They were caused by my extra NVMe disk whenever the system tried to read or write from it. As soon as I pulled that disk out of the system, it has worked without any issues.
BTW. the disk that caused this seems to be a: MZVLB512HAJQ-000L7 just as a FYI.
Thanks for all of your help guys !

That's the Samsung PM981. Have you tried updating its firmware? If you're within your right for a return or exchange, please consider an alternative such as the 970 EVO Pro, 970 EVO Plus (with latest firmware), or plain 970 EVO. Other makes and models work as well.
