[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Your EFI folder is using USBPorts.kext. Because sleep/wake problems are often (not always) due to to USB configuration issues, have you tried removing this kext and using the two SSDTs instead (SSDT-UIAC-DESIGNARE... and SSDT-EC.aml)?

Could this also be what’s causing the computer to shutdown and restart? When it tries to sleep, it ends up restarting instead and bringing me back to clover boot loader.

Just chiming in that I made a new build from cratch following the mini-guide of installing Catalina 15.1.2. BIOS settings as per 1st post (altough Gigabyte have completely changed the UI and finding the corresponding settings was a bit of a challenge and I hope I didn't miss anything). Followed the guide word-by-word and installed everything with the 1st attempt. At first everything looked good and stable, but now I have a problem of system locking up, but with a catch - it seems that the system keeps working in the background (was copying files to HDD and it kept doing it behind the scenes), but the screen is static - no mouse movement, no keyboard input. Tried plugging my wired keyboard and mouse into different ports - they light up, even CAPS LOCK works (which doesn't if the system is completely locked up), but no movement. My monitor is connected to Radeon VII via and HDMI cable (still waiting for DP). Unplugging and plugging it back makes the screen go all green and stays that way. Which leads me to thinking that this could be a graphic issue. How would I go about troubleshooting this?

Z390 Designare
i9-9900K
Gigabyte Radeon VII
64GB Kingston HyperX RAM 3000Mhz with XMP Profile 1 enabled
Syba 10gbe Card (for connecting to NAS later on)
Corsair h150i Pro cooler with disconnected USB
Corsair hx1000 series PSU

Everything stock, no oveclocking, no other kexts apart from the ones in the mini-guide, no config.plist changes or other devices attached apart from keyboard/mouse/display attached.

Hello, thanks for the guides!
But I got some noobish questions. Sorry I'am a bit lost.
I bought the same build and followed the mini guide for a fresh install off Catalina.
Till there everything went smooth, But after..
Do I still have to perform the post-installation afterwards with multibeast and so? Cause it fails at the UEFI boot mode, remove XHCI USB port limit, Clover UEFI boot mode+emu NVRAM. I continued adding options in clover and Added the additional files.

The problems I have are:

- The M.2 and HDD SATA drive are recognized but not the additional SSD (1T). It ain't showing. Gonna try another SATA port tomorrow
- I have no sound, Front and Back panel.
- Doesn't boot immediately in Catalina, goes first in the Clover boot.

Any advice? Thanks in advance.

It needs to be modified as follows:
  • The PCI device path needs to be moved from RP05 to probably RP21.
  • Two USB 2.0 ports needs to be added to RHUB.
  • The ADR values of the 4 USB ports (two USB 3 and two USB 2) need to be reassigned from 0x01 to 0x04.
The attached ZIP contains the modified files needed if Thunderbolt is on RP21. This can be checked by running IORegistryExplorer and looking for "Thunderbolt".

So I installed the Thunderbolt add in. Could you give me a more detailed guide? Where do I copy the SSDT-s and how do I do the above mentioned? Thank you.

It works!!

Just installed Windows 10 Build 1903 (May 2019 Feature Update):
  • Windows NVMe installed in the top M2M slot
  • Mojave NVMe installed in the bottom M2P slot
With this configuration, the Windows installer does not interfere with Clover or EFI partition on the Mojave SSD.
Dumb question - If I want to install and run Win 10 off of a SATA SSD instead of the either of the NVMe slots, do I
a) - still need to remove all drives during install and
b) - need to move my Mojave NVMe drive down a slot?

hmm my system won't boot after installing the Gigabyte GC-Titan Ridge Thunderbolt add card. BIOS? Did I do something wrong ?

The Catalina Mini-Guide includes post-installation, which is simply the process of copying EFI folder from USB to Catalina SSD. You should not use MultiBeast here. You should also not update Clover.

If you ran MultiBeast or installed Clover v4961 (or other 4xxx) then it’s best to delete EFI folder from Catalina SSD and re-copy the EFI folder from USB install disk.

OK. So I took out the add in, and my computer still won't boot up After the Clover screen, I get a couple lines of text and then at the last one is start uncompresskarnelcashe and then noting it stops.. everything was working just fine.. whats going on? Help please I'm lost...

Please run IORegistryExplorer and select File —> Save As... then upload the saved file. That will give us the PCI path of the Thunderbolt card.

  • Power down and flip power switch on PSU for 10 seconds. Then power it back up.
    • Does the error message remain?
  • If so, are you using AptioMemoryFix in your EFI/drivers/UEFI folder?
    • If so, please replace it temporarily with OsxAptioFix2Drv-free2000.efi which you can download from the bottom of Post #1.
