[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Intriguing! I have the GC-Titan Ridge in my Asus X99 Deluxe II, but hesitant to update because previous firmware is not present on the Gigabyte website (as far as I can tell), hence no going back.
I updated my GC-Titan Ridge card! I'm out on the bleeding edge, and I've been cut. (Somebody had to try it) There's good news and bad news. The good news is TB3 still works on the Mac side. Hot swap is still functional, and all TB drives are still working. The bad news, I've lost 90% functionality of my CalDigit TS3 Plus. Here's what stopped working: Audio in/out, Memory card reader, ethernet port and all USB ports. The DP port is working, and if I connect my usb-c to HDMI adapter, both monitors still work. However, if I plug in a TB3 drive to the TB3 extension port, it does not mount- even when plugged in on boot. I'm seeing identical behavior on the Windows side as well. Thinking this is a TB FW incompatibility. The card was sitting at NVM 23 and the update to it to NVM 43.

Been away for a while so there was a ton to catch up on! I was able to successfully run OcQuirks-4 / FwRuntimeServices in lieu of AptioMemoryFix + shikigva=32 and shiki-id=Mac-7BA5B2D9E42DDD94 boot values.
  • Mojave 10.14.6 (still waiting for audio plugin / daw developers to catch up :-/ )
  • BIOS F6
  • Intel i9-9900K
  • Clover v5098
  • SMBIOS iMac19,1
  • iGPU on (previously had this off with shiki values)
Are there any compelling reasons to update to BIOS F8?

Oh yes, I need to update that section of the build guide because 9th Gen Intel CPUs are no longer "Unknown" in 10.14.4 and newer. Although I no longer have Mojave, you may want to search AppleSystemInfo.strings (see Step 7 in the spoiler Specifying CPU Name in 'About this Mac') for "Intel Core i9" and rename it accordingly. Feel free to post that file here and I'll take a look at it.
I don't think it is in that file. I had to add .txt extension to upload.

Ouch! We appreciate your sacrifice on the alter of the bleeding edge. :)
There's good news and bad news. The good news is TB3 still works on the Mac side. Hot swap is still functional, and all TB drives are still working.
Does this mean that devices connected directly to the Thunderbolt 3 ports on back panel are working properly?
The bad news, I've lost 90% functionality of my CalDigit TS3 Plus.
But devices connected to the CalDigit dock are not working?

Have you tried all the "basic" things yet such as:
  • Fully power down the dock (unplug it) for about 10 seconds.
  • Fully power down the computer (unplug it) for about 10 seconds.
  • Then boot to macOS first.
  • Re-verify that BIOS --> Thunderbolt Security is still No Security.
  • It might even be worth reseting CMOS (shorting two designated pins on motherboard) and reconfiguring BIOS parameters.
Thinking this is a TB FW incompatibility. The card was sitting at NVM 23 and the update to it to NVM 43.
Not sure what this means. Updating the FW should not move the card to a different ACPI path, but you're probably not referring to that. Where are you seeing "NVM 43"?

Glad to hear it! So far so good for OcQuirks-4...
Are there any compelling reasons to update to BIOS F8?
Yes of course. It's got that pretty new GUI in blissful blue. :)

I was experiencing random USB freezes (keyboard, touchpad, Wacom) on F8. Went back to F6 and all is good. Currently using FwRuntimeServices.efi + OcQuirks-Test-1 memory fix combo.

Yes you're right. My i7-9700K in Catalina is being reported as 8-Core Intel Core i9. It's cosmetic and might upset your sense of aesthetics, but it won't affect system behavior.

However, you're welcome to try the following (untested by me):
  • Mount EFI folder and open config.plist in Clover Configurator.
  • In the CPU pane, set Type to 0x0204 (just type 0204).
    Screen Shot 2019-11-16 at 4.23.06 PM.png
  • This should set the CPU to "Unknown".
  • Copy the attached file back to:
    • /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AppleSysteminfo.framework/Versions/A/Resources/en.lproj
  • Reboot.

Right. I guess maybe when I had one drive connected it made one of them go away, with no drives there are two, so maybe each one handles 3 ports. I wonder if the other 4 port cards you suggest have the same "feature." I guess I will connect two drives to the card and try to kill the two dummy drives.

Dialog is the normal one you get with unformatted/new drive. I wonder what would happen if I try to initialize it.

No, I wouldn't advise you to Initialize... those pseudo-disks! Because these are dialogs and not notifications, I agree that they are quite intrusive. This is the first time I'm hearing of this problem so I don't know whether it affects 4-port cards as well. If you're within your rights to return/exchange the product, you might want to consider a different 6-port card that is also listed as being macOS compatible.

Would you consider trying F8 once again, but with OcQuirks-4 and FwRuntimeServices? No rush.

I have tested all 4. With all of them I have never had a problem booting up, but random freezing was occurring. Today is my second day back on F6 with good auto sleep no random waking up and overall solid feel. On F8 I was able to run with AptioMemoryFix.efi and boot successfully right after flushing BIOS to F8. There was no USB freezing with that combo, but after few more reboots (dual booting to Win 10) I could no longer boot Catalina and had to reflash F8.
