[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

If you are still using the i9-9900K (not the KF), then please try the following:
  1. Copy the attached config.plist to the EFI partition (CLOVER folder) of your macOS SSD.
  2. Power down the system and flip power switch on PSU for 10 seconds. This performs a soft CMOS reset that forces the firmware to rescan all buses for devices.
  3. Set BIOS --> IGFX --> Enabled.
  4. Do you still get boot errors?
    • If so, please provide (a) screenshot of /Library/Extensions folder and (b) screenshot of CLOVER UEFI/drivers or drivers64UEFI folder.
    • You may also want to perform a full CMOS Reset by shorting 2 designated pins on motherboard with a flat head screwdriver (please see procedure in Designare user's manual). This will set BIOS parameters to factory defaults, so please configure them again prior to booting macOS.

Great thanks! It worked after I performed the CMOS reset using a jumper on the motherboard! How can I test the iGPU is working on compute tasks only? Have the monitor running from Activity Monitor, but everything from Premiere Pro seems to stress RX580. What did you do to the config.plist file? Thanks again.

Not sure when did this happen, my Catalina drive is read-only now, unable to create new folder and drop the files. I try to change permission from drive info, but doesn't work, please show me the trick how to enable it.
Catalina splits the macOS disk into two APFS volumes:
  • Volume 1 contains all of the system files and folders.
    • This volume has read-only file permissions. This is done to safeguard the system.
  • Volume 2 contains user (home) directories.
    • This volume has the same read-write permissions as before. You can only modify the user directories now.
    • This volume has the suffix "- data".
      • For example, if Volume 1 is called "Catalina", then Volume 2 might be called:
        • "Catalina - Data"
In Catalina, Apple also introduced something else: Volume Groups. The above Volume 1 and Volume 2 are part of the same volume group, so only one of them will appear on your desktop.

You can modify anything in the /Users/Shared or /Users/<your username> folders.

Hey Casey,

Things have been working great ever since I unlocked accelerated graphics on my build.

Ran some benchmark tests and wanted to share to scores to get your opinion. Attaching my Geekbench 5 results. One thing I'm curious about is that it shows my RAM rated @1500Mhz in Geekbench but I bought RAM @3000Mhz. I'm seeing my memory showing @3000Mhz in the system report when clicking "About This Mac" (attaching screen grabs as well)

Would love to get your thoughts once you get a moment!

Thanks!
Just ran the latest GeekBench 5 on my 2012 MacBook Air (the real thing) and I see the same issue:
  • System Information says 1600 MHz RAM
  • GeekBench 5 says 800 MHz RAM
So I would not worry about it...

Hi Casey. First thanks for the reply and the incredible guide. It's the only reason I have a working Hackintosh, for sure.

The upgrade isn't working. Here is what I've done:

1, original install was 10.14.3 (because that's what was out when I built). It hasn't changed.
2, I upgrade clover to latest version.
3, I downloaded USBInjectAll.kext v.0.7.3 (I had 0.7.1) and used KextBeast to install.
4, I used MultiBeast to remove the USB port limit patch (see photo).
5, I erased the macOS Install Data folder on the root of Mojave (boot drive) and re-ran the software update. It started the install as it should and restarted.
6, I selected "Boot from Install macOS Mojave" and it restarted.
7, It went to a blank screen...and just stayed there. I left it for about 5 minutes and then I turned the machine off and on, and booted from Mojave and it boots normally. It did not update anything.

So, I'm stuck. Any suggestions would be hugely helpful.

Paul
Hello Paul,

Let's go through this in some detail:
  1. When you upgraded Clover to latest version, did you use Clover 4961 from the TonyMac website? Or latest version from CloverHackyColor's GitHub page?
    • If you installed CloverHackyColor's version, did you select Customize... and check-on Install Clover in the ESP?
    • See this post for details.
  2. We should not install any USB Port Limit patches because we use USBInjectAll.kext in combination with the custom USB SSDT that is stored in CLOVER/ACPI/patched folder.
    • The USB port Limit patches must be disabled or deleted.
    • You can do this by opening your config.plist in Clover Configurator, going to the Kernel and Kext Patches section, and either disabling or deleting the USB Port Limit patches.
  3. The 10.14.6 installation can take some time, so do not reboot after 5 minutes, but allow at least 10 minutes on the clock. After 10 minutes you can force-reboot.
Some other inputs:
  • At the Clover Boot Menu, what version of Clover appears at the bottom of the screen?
  • You may also compress and upload the CLOVER folder from EFI partition of your Mojave SSD.

Hi, I'm thinking to get this motherboard instead of the one I now have, because of the excellent step-by-step guide.
Now I will use a RX590 for the system, is it hard to change the SSDT for this one ?

I will use a 9900KF CPU.
The RX 590 is natively supported in macOS, so no SSDT is needed! Good luck with the build and let us know if you have any issues.

I'm back again trying to figure out with my Caldigit drive utility isn't working.

-My CalDigit T4 drives mount no problem and work in RAID5 flawlessly

however when I try to access them using the caldigit drive utility I get nothing:
-device list shows nothing
-disk utility [inside the CalDigit software] shows nothing either.

When I go to:

System report in macOS, under Thunderbolt devices- "no drivers loaded"

-Could that be the root of my problem?
-How do I get thunderbolt devices to show up in system report?
-Is it a BIOS setting?

Huge thanks if anyone has an idea.
My OWC 14-Port Dock exhibits similar behavior, namely:
  • The dock itself works perfectly.
  • But OWC's Dock Ejector app does not detect the dock.
    • This is most likely due to the lack of Thunderbolt Bus on Hackintosh.
    • Because the dock itself works fine, I just deleted the OWC Dock Ejector app.
Because Thunderbolt Bus has not been made to work on Hackintosh, it means:
  • System Information --> Thunderbolt will always say either:
    • No drivers are loaded
    • No hardware found
  • So we must ignore this section.
If the CalDigit software is also trying to look for devices on the Thunderbolt Bus, then that software will also not work. But if the drives themselves are working, then I would suggest ignoring the CalDigit software if possible.

Can anyone help in this WiFi question?
Here in the US, the TP-LINK Archer T9E is about 73% more expensive than the Fenvi FV-T919.
  • Fenvi has both WiFi and Bluetooth.
  • TP-LINK is WiFi only.
  • Fenvi is US$60, TP-Link is US$104.
If you have eBay or something similar to eBay in Hungary, please try searching there for Fenvi FV-T919.

Thank you @CaseySJ this confirms my suspicions.
My only concern is that I'm unable to monitor the drive status.
i.e-> if a drive goes bad etc, or general drive status.

I wonder if there another piece of software that could perform the same functions....

Hi!
I'm back and I tried what you advised me to do. Unfortunately, I couldn't go very far because I came up against a mistake in the Terminal. I've tried various tricks, like changing lower-case/middle case, name attached or separated by a space, nothing works. I put below the answers from the Terminal. I would like to point out that I started well on my backup.
...
Because the name of your Mojave SSD is "Hackintosh SSD" (a space between the two words) it means you must type the name in quotes, like this:
Code:
cd /Volumes/"Hackintosh SSD"
So in Stage 2 (from my original post) you would type:
Code:
cd /Volumes/"Hackintosh SSD"/usr/bin

HI Casey,

Thanks for the responses.

1: I used your link from your original response: https://www.tonymacx86.com/resources/clover-uefi-boot-mode-with-emulated-nvram-v2-4k-r4961.433/ so I expect it's the right one.

2: I think I'm forgetting how to do a simple thing--launch the Clover configurator (unless you just mean the setup from Clover when you reboot...), but I've uploaded a zip of the clover folder from the EFI drive.

3: I understand this but at least according to your instructions, there should be a progress window. There is just a blank screen:
  • The standard startup process will begin -- an Apple Icon in the center with a progress bar below.
  • Midway through, you might see small purple horizontal lines (@Abdala's screenshot) randomly drawn at the top of the screen. DON'T PANIC and don't interrupt the system. Just wait...
  • About 30 seconds later the screen will go blank. Again, DON'T PANIC. Just wait.
All of that didn't happen. Just a blank screen.

4: I can't restart at the moment because I have client work up, but I'm pretty sure the clover version is the latest, per your instructions at #1. I can absolutely check later if that's still a concern.

Thank you so much.
