FIX for boot hangs after BIOS update (ACPI PATCH)

Status
Not open for further replies.
This is the efi from my backup usb. I cannot get to the file on the computer, or I don't know how to get to it from the clover screen. This should be the same, it a few weeks old backup. Can you attach method to get to efi from clover screen. Thanks for your help with this. Cheers, Jim

Also, I tried all 3 acpi fixes on this efi. And could not get past clover.

Now it should boot fine.

I went to the shop today, they said the problem is very weird, then replaced new board for me.. its working fine now.
I feel a little bit guilty.. not sure if that's my fault.. :)

Thanks for the quick response. OK I installed the new efi and now it goes thru the first load screen but hangs after that. I turned on -v and it gets to something called "spaceman" I think. I do not know how to pause the verbose print out. If you can tell me how to pause -v I can take a pic for you. I hope this makes some sense to you.

I fixed the port limit patch for Mojave.
What version of Mojave are you using?
For the install to boot you will have to wait a couple of minutes.

Ok, I let it go for 6 mins after verbose stopped and it got to the purple lines that always appear in the top half of the screen just as the second load starts. Also the usb was blinking off and on all during the 6 mins after black screen. It does seem the verbose goes off a different places every time, but it is about 25 secs

I am running macOS 10.14.6 Supplemental Update 2 which I think is totally up to date

Thanks again for all your help!

So you have a black screen? Try other video ports, unplug and plug back.

WOW you called that one right. I took it out of display port and put it in the hmdi and everything worked just fine, moved the efi to the SSD startup and everything seems to be back to normal. I then tried the dp port again and it does the same thing. I don't understand why is gets video thru clover and up to the second load and then the output to the monitor goes south. That is really weird - any ideas.

Hey, if you are ever around Tempe, AZ you let me know and dinner is on me. You really saved my bacon here.

Cheers, Jim S

You can try this :
- at the Clover boot menu press O (options) and add boot args like : agdpmod=vit9696 or agdpmod=pikera
- or you can try a frame buffer like Orinoco or Guariba in the graphics section
- use only one

I tried both mods with no luck with dp connection. Have a feeling that bios update changed something in the bios that I have not found yet. Anyway I'm up and running on hdmi connect thanks to you. Will keep you posted if I find the problem. I did update Lilu and Whatevergreen and that did not work either. Cheers Jim

I was going thru the bios setup and in peripherals there is ami output protocol policy and in it there is an Output Select, but the only choice is: DFPZ_HDMI. Don't know what this is and don't remember if it was ther before the bios update to 14.
