[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Hi guys, does anyone know if the Blackmagic UltraStudio 4K, NOT the Mini, works with Gigabyte Titan Ridge?

Thanks a lot.
I second this request!
Because the UltraStudio Mini 4K works with a TB3-to-TB2 adapter, it is likely that its bigger sibling will work as well. Maybe @digumo has some thoughts on this (yes I know he has the Mini)?

Has anyone tried installing the GC Titan Ridge card to add additional TB ports? I don't have enough!
Please see the following post and some of the subsequent posts for a discussion of this. Brief summary:
  • It seems that installing GC-Titan Ridge card disables the on-board Titan Ridge controller.
  • When we look at IORegistryExplorer we find that all of the on-board Thunderbolt devices under RP05 are missing (see screenshot in the post linked below).
  • Because Designare Z390 does not have a Thunderbolt Header (THB_C) the only thing this card can do is connect to a Thunderbolt 3 monitor -- but it seems the built-in devices on that monitor can be used (such as camera, speakers, USB ports).
  • But there is no hot-plug capability and we may not be able to connect anything other than a Thunderbolt 3 monitor to the 2 Thunderbolt ports.
  • So this is not a way of adding more Thunderbolt ports.
  • Having said this, I have not tested any of this myself. I have inferred this from the post below and from some related posts before and after it.

Forgot to mention:

Many Thunderbolt devices have daisy chaining capability. If there are 2 Thunderbolt ports on a device, it most likely supports daisy chaining. Each Thunderbolt port on the Designare can support 6 daisy chained devices, for a total of 12.

When I hit F12 (It's not F8 for me) at the firmware splash screen, the intended OSX SSD Evo 970 is not at the top of the list, despite being set to Opt #1 in the BIOS.
How do I know if it is indeed booting off this drive every time?
Changes to config.plist are working fine as it does boot straight into the intended drive at Clover splash screen.
you can use different Clover GUI themes in the config.plist-s on your various drives. then you'll know which drive is being booted from.

True, sadly a bunch of my devices are terminal (only a single port).

Hello
Thank you for all the information you have provided me. I still have some questions about my configuration.
-What is the top and bottom slot on the Z390 Designare MB to install NVMe SSD as I would like to install a second 1TB card?
-Is it possible to migrate OS Mojave from the NVMe 250 GB card to the NVMe 1TB card without doing a full reinstallation?
Because I would like to follow your recommendations to install W10.
-Do you have a tutorial to follow this procedure?
I ask you these questions because I have not finished the post-installation and I would like to do things properly.
And, finally, how do you configure the bluray player?
Thank you for all your answers and congratulations for the quality and efficiency of your site.
Thank you
You are the BEST :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

re: Cxxxxxxa
Hypothetically speaking, might it be possible. in the fullness of time, to update to Cxxxxxxa directly from Software Update?

cheers
I made a proper bootable backup, and booting from that backup was able to install directly from Software Update.

@heythisisdave What memory speed are you using? I has similar issues but when I turned the RAM down to 2666mhz, my sleep/wake issues went away.

Hey @wordsworth03 - were you having problems with sleep or with wake? My screens are turning off (not sure if the machine itself is). Then occasionally I can't wake up the machine (seems like fans are still spinning but displays won't turn on).

I'm going to enable SSH and see if I can connect when that happens.

I have a second guess that my USB hub is going bad - I can't find a good source on how to check for USB connects/disconnects (the log predicate stuff doesn't find what I'm looking for).

Yeah, I had near the exact same issues, mainly with the screen turning off but the fans still spinning. Turning the memory speed down worked for me but I don’t have a lot of USB devices attached though, so if the memory speed fix doesn’t work, I’d definitely follow @CaseySJ’s recommendations.

Use Disk Utility to check if it can see the 5big enclosure. If it can, run Disk First Aid on the unmounted drive and let us know the results.

For the first time ever I have two external drives that will not mount on Mac (any Mac) but will mount on Windows with Paragon HFS+ (they're formatted for Mac).

It appears that the boot sector files may be corrupt - DiskUtil list shows them as Microsoft Basic Data format
I'm waiting for backups before I try to repair the boot sector

Hi Zip1,
Thanks for the input. It does not show up in diskutil. Additionally, the drive LED's never illuminate. Again, it works under Windows (well, I can't mount the HFS+ partition due to no driver), but the LEDs illuminate and I see the partition in disk manager.
