[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

We should investigate the two highlighted sleep/wake assertions in red and green.
  • Red: Run Activity Monitor and look for backupd-helper. Do you recognize this process? Try force-quitting the process and then test whether sleep works.
  • Green:I noticed this yesterday ("Handoff") so I asked whether any iOS devices were awake and nearby that would invoke Handoff. Try disabling Handoff temporarily from:
    • System Preferences --> General --> Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices.

I am using the usb dongle again and have removed the BT card. Sleep works fine although the dongle does lose connection occasionally.
'handoff' does not prevent sleep using the dongle.
I could not force quit the backupd-helper. It is part of Time Machine. I disabled Time Machine.
I did turn off 'handoff' but it made no difference with the BT card connected.
I will have to live with the dongle disconnects for a while.
Thanks for your help.

This should be okay as follows:
  • Connect the EVO M.2 drive into the bottomM2P slot.
    • Because you are using 4 SATA drives already in SATA1, SATA2, SATA3, and SATA4, it is not possible to connect a PCIe NVMe SSD into the top M2M slot without losing SATA4.
    • But connecting PCIe NVMe SSD into the bottom M2P slot only disables SATA0, which you are not using. So this slot is OK.
  • Now comes the tricky part:
    • Windows should be installed in the front-most port. For the 6 SATA ports, SATA0 comes first, then SATA1, etc. Because there's nothing in SATA0, the front-most port is SATA1. So Windows must be installed in SATA1.
    • The tricky part, though, is this:
      • Because the two M.2 slots come even before the 6 SATA ports, will Windows interfere with the EFI partition on the macOS disk in M2P?
      • This is a configuration I have not tested, but you are welcome to try it. Even if Windows does interfere, it is relatively easy to recover.
Drive zero is my windows ssd. When on Hackintosh I power power it off with the switch.
At the moment windows sees no Mac drives because I power them all off using the switch.
When booting into windows the bios only sees the windows boot manager.
However if I used m.2 I wouldn't be able to power it off

@jay2068,

My immediate suspicion is that the macOS installer is corrupted or the download was interrupted. What is the size of Install MacOS Mojave on the USB install disk? Just insert the USB flash disk into your Mac and select File --> Get Info. It should be around 6.x GB.

Also note that the Fenvi card in the Amazon link will not work with macOS. We need to buy the Fenvi FV-T919, which is available from NewEgg and eBay.

Thanks I cancelled the Amazon order :) will order from Newegg

I checked and the file size is 6.28 GB

should I delete the mojave app and re-download?

Does the size on USB match the size of the same file in your Applications folder?

Doesn’t hurt to delete from Apps folder and re-download...

@CaseySJ, first off, I just want to thank you for uploading this entire, crazy in-depth guide. I saved up for 6mos and finally built my system this week (identical to yours but with i9-9900k and Vega 56 Pulse)

I followed each step but I can't seem to get Bluetooth working... I see "Discoverable: Off" and "Connectable: No" in system report... I used the Net card and Broadcom module you suggested in the build guide. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the manipulation of kexts and stuff like that, so any info or guidance will be greatly appreciated.

I know it's late and it's the 4th of July tomorrow, so take your time, no rush. Thanks a bunch! You're a legend.

P.S. using 10.14.5

I finished this build! It works absolutely flawlessly, barring WiFi/Bluetooth, which I wasn't able to install yet since the Broadcom card is going to arrive only next week. Thank you so much, Casey!

Things I did that work, but aren't necessarily talked about in the OP:

  • I installed Windows before macOS to make sure the Windows installer doesn't mess with the Hackintosh boot loader. It is definitely no problem to do this! Just make sure to have the first NVMe SSD as your Windows boot drive so later updates won't affect the macOS EFI partition. Also I removed the Windows boot option from the BIOS during the entire macOS installation procedure.
  • I used an i9-9900K, 64GB of G.Skill Aegis 3000MHz Memory, a Sapphire Pulse Vega 56 and, most notably, an Intel 660p 1TB SSD to boot from. No issues whatsoever from any of these parts. Sleep works flawlessly as does everything else!
Thanks again!

Hello @hhorch65,

After selecting the various checkboxes shown in the screenshot and clicking Generate Patch, you must then select File --> Export --> Bootloader config.plist. In the dialog box that appears, navigate to your config.plist file in the EFI/CLOVER folder (you must mount the EFI partition of your Mojave SSD ahead of time).

Just click on your config.plist. Hackintool will show the file in gray and will not highlight the file when you click on it. But that is okay. Just click on the gray file name anyway and click Save.

Then run Clover Configurator and open your config.plist. Go to Devices --> Properties and you should see the changes. Post a screenshot of this if you like.
Hi CaseySJ,
thanks for the responce.
I will try again.

I actually found one mostly cosmetic issue: The graphics card sensor readout is permanently at 127°C - it doesn't cause the fans to spin up or the GPU to throttle, though, so in the background, I assume, the system reads accurate data.

Hello @AlexComputerWiz,

A handful of reports recently in this thread would suggest that several independently sold Broadcom WiFi/BT modules are not working properly. The build guide is now strongly recommending the Fenvi FV-T919 and discouraging the purchase of separate WiFi/BT modules and PCIe x1 adapters.

Nevertheless, we can troubleshoot your Bluetooth problem as follows:
  • Is the Bluetooth data cable connected to F_USB port on the motherboard?
  • If so, please run IORegistryExplorer and select File --> Save As...
  • Upload that file. It will show us whether Bluetooth is connecting to the USB port.
