[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Let me see if I understand the problem (please correct me as needed):
  • You would like to enable the USB 2 virtual ports on the USB-C physical ports?
  • There are 2 USB-C ports on the rear IO panel and both of them are currently active for USB 3 devices only.
  • If your PC case has a USB-C front-panel connector, it is also active for USB 3 devices only.
  • It is perfectly possible to activate USB 2 on these USB-C ports. They are mapped as follows:
    • Front panel USB-C --> USB 2 virtual port --> HS01
    • Rear panel top USB-C --> USB 2 virtual port --> HS08
    • Rear panel bottom USB-C --> USB 2 virtual port --> HS13
  • If you are thinking of redirecting your HS07/SS07 devices to the Inateck card, please note that this will free up only 2 ports:
    • HS07
    • SS07
  • I can modify the USB SSDT if you can tell me:
    • Which current ports to disable (e.g. HS07, SS07)?
    • Which ports to enable (e.g. HS02, HS08, HS13)?

Hey! Thank you!
I am using the default configuration from the thread starter, so I suppose all ports are working correctly right now.
I would like to "redirect" the rear USB3 Ports (HS07 / SS07) and the internal USB3 header (HS06/SS06) which I don't use to the Inateck card. The ports I just specified would be alright to disable on Mac OS X since I do not use them at all. The functionality of the other ports should not be impacted (USB-C ports and USB 3.1).
Would that be possible? :)

EDIT: Sorry. You must have changed your profile picture. Of course - you are the thread starter... *facepalm*

Gigabyte agreed to RMA my Z390-UD with non-functioning audio output. I will take the opportunity to replace it with a better model. If I'm lucky, they will replace with a new one, and I should be able to sell it on eBay for close to what I paid for it.

Since I have no plans to need Thunderbolt anytime soon (or possibly ever), I am leaning towards a Z390 Aorus Pro. I think several folks here have that board. Is anyone unhappy with that board?
thanks!

Hi @CaseySJ,
I am sorry for my previous post. I wasn't very clear. I actually understood what you meant when I read an other guide because it was written an other way, so then i got it. Maybe you could add a screenshot in the future for new user like me?

Anyway, thanks a lot for your guide!! I have now my computer running, and I am very happy. It was a bit scary for me to try a hackintosh build but your guide is so well made, it made it totally possible for me to follow.
Now my computer is running (1st try!), Wake/sleep work, all USB work (I mean, they recognize my mouse), no weird things are happening. I didn't tested iCloud, iMessage or similar, because I am not using any of those services. I can't check WiFi/BT because the card isn't connected yet. (I need the adapter to plug it.) But I don't need it now actually.

However, I got a few questions:
- What should I test to see my computer is running properly? Any special things I should check?
- How do I know if the displayed resolution is 4K? (My monitor is 4K.)
- I am using a Vega 64 Sapphire Nitro+. Are the steps in "Vega Fan and Power Control" mandatory? My graphic card is in the PCIe Slot 2 because my fan (Noctua NH-D15) is blocking the way for the PCIe Slot 1.
- How do I know if my fans (both GPU and Case) are running at the good speed?
- I did the whole post-installation process, but some menu in technical info aren't displaying the same

Thanks a lot for your support (and anybody else on this forums). It's really cool!

No experience with the Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro, but I do own the Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro WiFi, Z390 UD, and the current one I am using is the Z390 Designare, which is excellent. All work well as they are Z390 chipsets. So the Aorus Pro should work well for you.

great--thanks!!

I used the "compare" tool on gigabyte's website to compare the pro and pro wifi and confirmed that the only difference is the wifi socket. I use wired ethernet, so I wouldn't benefit from the CNVi on the few occasions that I will run win10, anyway.

I followed the directions, but can't even get to stop one. I just get this within seconds of the "Apple" log flashing on the screen. I think I am missing something very simple.

Frequently this is due to not having your BIOS configured for the install, or the USB stick is not configured correctly.

I would start there and double check everything per the guide.

At the Clover screen, hit the space bar, scroll down to and check "verbose boot". Then scroll back up and choose "boot with selected options". Finally, when the boot stalls, take a picture of the screen and post it here.

HI CaseySJ ! This few words just to thank you very much for your extremely clear "How to"! I made my build today, and it was so easy with your guide. You thought to every details and every place were we could fall...
Thumbs up !!!!

Hello,

@CaseySJ , Thanks for the excellent build instructions. My system is stable, everything works and the benchmarks seem in line with what they should be.

My problem is that, in Premiere Pro, is that my system exporting H265 video takes twice as long as my MacBook Pro.
MacBook Pro is 6 core + Radeon 555X 4gig.

I've tried headless Configuration, normal Configuration, Mac Mini 8,1, Imac 18,3. Nothing seems to make any difference. My system is a z390 Designare, i9900K, MSI Armor 580 8GB, 32 Gigs 2400mhz ram, Crucial 1tb M2 NVMe.

Any ideas?

Thanks
