[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

When two devices are paired to a single Logitech Unifying Receiver, we tend to get this problem, which is most likely due to signal strength issues. Previous posters in this thread have solved the problem by relocating the Unifying Receiver closer to their input devices by using a USB extension cable.

Try relocating the Unifying Receiver as mentioned above. Also ensure that the latest USB SSDT (V4) is installed in CLOVER/ACPI/patched folder. The new SSDT is available in Post-Install Files.zip in Post #1.

Yeah, relocating the reciever did it. I'm up to date on my USB now too.

This confirms that the accelerated graphics driver is not installed, which will also impair wake-from-sleep if using a non-headless SMBIOS such as Macmini8,1.

Simply upload your config.plist (you may remove Serial Numbers from SMBIOS).
I made a copy in a different folder and removed the serial numbers. The plan is to copy/paste the serials back into the new config.plist and replace the file in my EFI/CLOVER folder.

Thank you CaseySJ,

I will try and report...

Hi CaseySJ,

Just wanted to jump back on and thank you for your assistance.
WiFi and Bluetooth works perfectly.

I appreciate you.

Thank you,

Tony.....

And another step...
iStat now shows the Intel GPU but VideoProc doesn't as well as IOReg.
This is after following the instructions in the FCP specific spoiler.

EDIT
I just ran FCP and it successfully exports h.264 so the GPU seems to be accesable.
I call this one a success!
Thanks Casey!

Hi @CaseySJ and all! First, thanks for this amazing guide. I'm writing this from my rock-solid Hackintosh running most of the same hardware, thanks to you and this guide. It's really been incredibly solid--I don't think that it's crashed once in 2 weeks since I finished the build. Amazing. And, it's F'ing fast...

Which brings me to my question. It's probably not necessary, but as I'm running a "k" chip, I'm curious if anyone has overclocked on this setup? I know that you need to add the add'l power to do it (I saw that in the build) but I'm curious if A, anyone's done it and B, what the steps are (and if it's worth it?).

Thanks, all. I love my new Hackintosh!

Paul
Attached is the Geekbench score I get running mine at 5.2 Ghz max. It throttles as necessary, but it's pretty fast if I need it. I keep my HW Monitor window open all the time to look at temps and spikes. Best of both worlds since its not always running at 5.2Ghz (consuming power) but jumps up to it when I do something intensive. Mind you, I am using mine as a video server constantly so that I can play my movies across my internal network to 3 or 4 different 4K TVs with Plex Media Server as well as to about 10 other people outside my network on demand over 1Gb Fios. My idle temps with the corsair 150i are about 36C, the EVO is at 45C, and the 4 drive RAID hovers between 34C (non use) to about 40C (in use). I didn't do anything special. Just followed the Gigabyte guide (also attached). Be careful though, wrong settings can fry your processor /and/or your board.:banghead: I love my new Hackintosh as well. Beats buying an iMac Pro for $4,000! And that's before adding my 2TB 970 (ouch!) I just got frustrated with waiting on Apple to make the machine I want. They say this year, but I won't be surprised if the machine we get is the machine "they think" we want instead of the actually machine we want. I had some stuff already, but after pouring about $2000 into this rig, I think I made out.

Regarding IORegistryExplorer, please have another look at my previous post: ;)

Hi @AlexD I just saw that there's a new beta bios F6D for Designare? Were you able to try it already? Does it finally include the Thunderbolt 1 Fix? Here's hoping they would soon update our Z390 Xtreme BIOS too. :headbang:

Just installed it yesterday. Unfortunately this version doesn't bring any fixes or improvements to Thunderbolt. In Q-Flash I noticed that it was built on January 18. So probably it was created before Gigabyte engineers found the fix.

Thanks so much Casey for this super inspiring build!

I followed your guide as close as possible and so far it is working extremely well on my Z390 Aorus Elite / i7 8700 / AMD RX580 - with one exception:

I get a Kernel panic when exporting video from Final Cut Pro X . After rebooting, FCPX crashes upon launch (but no kernel panic). If I then disable iGPU in BIOS, FCPX works again - and I can even re-enable iGPU in BIOS and successfully work a little more in FCPX until the whole thing repeats again (with a kernel panic).

NB I have applied your suggested FCPX fix. This is my first Hackintosh, any help is appreciated.

Thanks. Ill see if I can get the framebuffer working properly.
Your Framebuffer is most likely okay and it most likely also appears in IORegistryExplorer. All you have to do is search for IGPU and then immediately click the little "x" on the far right of the search bar.

Kristofer, several questions and comments:
  • Which SMBIOS name are you using? iMacPro1,1 or iMac18,3?
  • Have you tried Platform ID 0x3E910003 instead of 0x3E920003? See also items 6 and 7 here.
  • There are 2 known configurations in which FCPX (and iMovie) will work:
    • Switching from Macmini8,1 to a headless platformID such as the 2 mentioned above.
    • Staying with Macmini8,1 and staying with platformID 0x3E9B0007, but setting BIOS --> Initial Display Output to IGFX instead of PCIe Slot 1. In this case, the BIOS and Clover screens will only appear through the IGPU (or motherboard HDMI/USB-C ports). But when Mojave boots up, the login screen will appear through the RX580.
    • In this case you can plug 2 video cables to a single monitor (one cable from motherboard and one from RX580) or use 2 monitors.
P.S. I just updated this section of the the Build Guide.
