It would be better to directly compare the EVO 970 with the EVO 970 Pro. Could you do that? I guess you would stay with the EVO 970 pro finally, but let's see.. ;)

It's a good option I'm going to think about it.

For the moment I have in reserve a Western Digital SN750 NVMe with heatsink for testing delivered yesterday .

The only problem is to access my letterbox with the snow. ;)

A question about motherboards.
I've seen the "new" PRIME X299-DELUXE II. Does it work well?

If you had to do a X299 iMac Pro for Video Editing in Premiere, that must have reliable thunderbolt 3, using a 16-cores i9 7960X CPU, and 2 x GTX 1080 Ti, which motherboard would you use?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Before any motherboard suggestion, let's talk first about the elephant in the room ( two actually ). Below is the summing formula.
OSX Mojave + ( 2 x GTX 1080 Ti*) = :beachball::banghead::crazy::sick:
Clear enough?

GPUs Vega 64, 56 or against @kgp recommendation, Sapphire RX580 OC ( Oops I wrote a bad word  ) are highly recommended.

The most important issue of your proposal already has been answered by @Ellybz... ;)

With respect to TB, I would go for the ASUS X299 Sage WS 10GB + GC-Titan Ridge.

Good luck,

Quick feedback with my both NVMe SSDs :

So, after clearing the snow and accessing my black WD SN750 NVMe delivered, I did the same test with:
(To keep the continuity of Thunderbold under MacO, you must first install it on Windows ...)

So with the same method I did before with the 970 EVO :
  • Cloned my SSD with Macrium Reflect
  • Started on Windows 10
  • Installed the required drivers
  • Thunderbold drivers installed
The verdict for the moment with both NWMe SSDs on the vertical M2_2 slot :

WD Black SN750 is more reliable ( without heatsink ! for compared with the previous ) :
  • fastest boot time
  • temperature is lower
  • no thermal throttling issue
I have not tested the intrinsic performance but I do not use Windows for my work.

So let's go to put the 970 EVO on the M2-1 slot and install MacOs and see what is being done ....

Do you really need any heatsink with all this snow? Just boot your rig outside and you will beat all records :headbang::wave::lol:

Can you compare the performance of the WD SN750 with the one of the EVO 970 Pro that I depicted in in post #1,539?

For sure but if the ASUS X299 Sage WS 10GB was not so expensive for now...It's just a time consideration because time is money (If "French humour" is allowed )

Of course but I did not ordered one for the moment , just want to see what the non PRO is doing :

If I'll have issue with it I'll return it on Amazon.

Edit :

I must admit I forgot this small but important detail before I ordered the non PRO
