[Guide] Dell XPS 13 9360 on MacOS Sierra 10.12.x - LTS (Long-Term Support) Guide

Just coming back to explain this point (as there currently are some killer deals atm... thank you Black Friday)

It would appear tempting to upgrade (in my case from an EVO 850) to an EVO 970 but do remember that the 9360 is power-limited to 2-channels only, not 4. So the performance increase will be capped. As previously discussed there are ways to increase this limit, but it is doubtful as to the long-term practicalities of this given the additional heat and power consumption.

So whether I should choose between WD, Samsung or just go back to SATA for lower power consumption?

I choose SATA (850 EVO) because it's the best power compensation & price ratio for now.

Am currently experimenting with unlocking 4 PCIe channels in ME, but because it's closely linked with Dell's Verified Boot, it's a pita - and frankly am not sure it's worth the while. So yeah, SATA works best for me but YMMV

I got the WD one, it maxes out the 2x PCIe lanes on the machine compared to the Sandisk NVMe my machine came with.
Putting in the Samsung NVMe would not be worth it as it would hit the same maximum 2x PCIe bandwidth.

I had the Samsung 850 SATA in my old machine, but I still decided to get the WD NVMe as it outperforms.
Note, I usually have a power adapter or USB-C dock with power delivery near, so I am less concerned about power usage and more about performance.

hello i have problem when i run first installation of Mojave 10.14.1
i running in verbose mode with these log
48845123-487d0980-edce-11e8-96f2-95a52c442ef7-png.367089

after verbose log i got gray screen showing up with mouse working and then for a seconds going to apple screen with progress bar like this with not moving at all.

i have already all patched DVMT to 192M by the following the-darkvoid github

it's graphic card issue ?

i also attach my clover file below

Your profile has no screen resolution detail.
Please fix as per FAQ:

Keep in mind 4k displays need -cdfon kernel flag and WhateverGreen.kext.

Well I just find out that 860 EVO 2TB is more or less the same price of the WD Black 1TB.
Now it becomes if I want more space or faster speed. LOL

Yes that's the crucial decision. @the-darkvoid makes a valid point - If you're mostly/permanently hooked up to power, and/or don't mind the heat dissipation, then the WD / 970s are a better option due to the increased performance. If, on the other hand, you're mostly on the go, and are more concerned with battery life and power consumption (I even disable turbo boost when on battery for example) then the 850/860s are really hard to beat on price at the moment. With the latter drives, they're also SATA, so you don't need to add any NVMe fixes and/or 4k patches unless you want to.
