Hi d-rasta,

I believe that the problem is not the mac os version, but the lack of drivers/kext from the manufactor (Gigabyte) for the Alpine get to work on mac, that piece of hardware is supported on windows unfortunately, and we are really lucky because it works on mac as well, the only problem is boot win10 first, this will never kill us, but its a pain in the **** xD.

I'm praying for the gods of gigabyte to develop proper kexts for mac for us to get rid of win10 for good.

Let's be in touch here, I'm looking for a solution too and we can trade infos about our problem, I'm UAD2 user too xD.

Good luck for us on that search.

Bye :)

Hello dude :),

Lol is exactly that ... It works perfectly but it takes Windows 10 in boot before that it works ..

I will take the time to write to Gygabite even if I know it will not help! But we have a lot of people in the hackintosh community and I'm sure there are a lot of people in our case.

I miss this famous kext and my machine would be 100% functional :headbang:

We keep ourselves informed

I can't get it to work. I mean, I can for a bit. Even in Windows, I have to reinstall the drivers for the thunderbolt device every single time.

I can get my Black Magic Thunderbolt Decklink to show up in Windows, but only after booting, and then re-installing the black magic software every time. Then I can reboot into mac, and it shows up, but if I power down, it doesn't show up again.

What I don't have at any point, is the actual Thunderbolt Bios settings. They simply do not show up. I've re flashed the bios several times, tried downgrading, but to no avail. This is with a V2 Alpine Ridge Card.

Any suggestions why I wouldn't have any options for TB in the bios?

8700K Gigabyte Aorus Gaming 7, 32bg ram Bios V7 Alpine Ridge card.

If you press F4 at the main Clover bootloader screen, Clover will write your native DSDT and other files to EFI/Clover/ACPI/origin. If you could grab that, and copy your clover folder to your desktop. Then edit your config.plist so it doesn't have the serial and UUID in it, and do a IOJones dump into that folder, and post a zip of it, and I will attempt to make a SSDT.aml file to get your thunderbolt working with Native hot plug.

Hey JaminMC. I was wondering if I might be able to take you up on your exceptionally kind offer as well here? I'm having a heck of a time getting hot-plug to work, and my system is taking forever to boot when a Thunderbolt device is connected.

Thanks in advance!

I built my latest Hackintosh purely to achieve the lowest latency possible in Cubase, so TB looked like the best way to go. Even with a 7800K and TB audio I still have to use a 256 buffer, which isn't that much better then my previous Firewire interface. If I was to do this all over again, I'd go with USB as TB presents problems along the way. Other issues have crept in over the past weeks, such as 128k audio streams not playing from Facebook, some YouTube videos have no audio, etc. I'm pretty sure this is down to less than perfect TB implementation on Hackintosh.[/QUOTE]

Except for no hot swap, and some stuff that just will not work(like TB networking), I've had very little problems using TB3 for audio on my rig. I can run Cubase sessions with say 10 tracks of audio plus 10 Vi's with lots of plug ins with a 64 sample buffer @ 44.1 kHz.
I did some tests on my setup with a Lynx Aurora(-n) with LT-TB(via a TB3-TB2 adapter) with a 32 sample buffer @ 44.1 kHz with 32 audio tracks, and this worked fine too. Are you sure you made the right settings in Cubase (multi-processing, ASIO guard)?

TB interferes with sleep though, but sleeping a DAW is not a great idea anyway, so that's not much of a problem.

Firewire interfaces work great too on my system, both with my builtin FW card and via a slew of adapters connected to TB3.

The Bios Settings, That absolutely worked for me!!! THANK YOU!!!!! It was driving me absolutely nuts!!!!!! Something so simple found by a great guy "purpleronnie" man! Thanks again for the share you RULE!.:headbang:

Really glad it helped :)

Did anyone ever have a problem with the post install during your 10.13.6 build? I've run that last step of Multibeast, but after that last F12 restart selecting the new build, it always displays the Prohib symbol. So basically the system works once, then never again. Anybody ever find a cure? Windows 10 works. See attachment.

Sierra on Gigabyte Z170MX Gaming 5 rev1.1 with Alpine Ridge v2.0 here.

Thanks so much for all your posts.

I’ve had a pretty confusing time with this. Did the TB flash in Win10 but was still running bios f5e. Installed the card. Installed Win10 drivers. Shows up in device manager. Entered bios and enabled TB settings. Endless boot cycle. Remove card. Reset bios. Update bios to f21 via Win10. TB flash again. Card doesn’t show up in device manager. Restart to Sierra, “no hardware” under TB in system report. Plug in Apple TB3 USB&HDMI adaptor with USB drive. Nothing. Restart to Win10. Nothing. Restart to Sierra, USB drive shows up on desktop, functioning. Unplug adaptor, USB disappears. Plug back in, nothing. Shut down system. Power on, bios sees USB drive plugged into TB3 adaptor, so does Clover. USB on Sierra desktop again. No TB in system report.

So, obviously no hot plug. But does this mean I have TB3 working in Sierra from system boot? I don’t want to purchase expensive TB3 hardware (UAD Apollo) unless I have TB3 working and I have no other TB3 hardware to test it with :(

After 5 days of tearing my hair out and reading many posts on this topic, I've found a solution that works on my system.

So, as you may probably already know, you must first activate your AIC in Windows. These steps are well documented, so I won't cover that here.

The next crucial step is getting your BIOS configured. Before I found these golden settings, I was able to get TB to work in OSX, but only after booting into Windows first. After powering down, the connection was lost and I would then need to boot into windows, load my audio interface control panel (Focusrite Clarett 4Pre), then reboot into OSX.

I can now forget about Windows, power down, and connect in OSX 100% of the time!

So, here are my BIOS settings, which will hopefully help some of you out:

You have the same board as me and while you use the alpine ridge and I got a titan ridge should be the same ish.. Other then installing the software and plugging in a drive was there more that needed to be done in windows? The drive however is formatted in APFS so it would not show up in This PC, but in the Thunderbolt software I could see that the G-Drive controller was present. I have it in the last PCIEX4 port because otherwise it is sharing bandwidth with my video card also it seemed like it did not want to work right in the 8x slot. The thunderbolt does not show up in the bios either, but all my other settings match the ones you show. However, both my monitors work, One is plugged into DP and one is plugged in the USB C port.

Do you have an SSDT implementation for the TB?
Do you have SSDT implementation for your USB?
Should I see it in Device Manager in Windows?
What Bios Revision are you using? I am on F10
Clover Sees the Thunderbolt Drive G Drive
Also when I plug the card into the USB 2.0 header I get black screen on boot.

Thanks in advance!
