High Sierra install reboots

Hey, sorry for the MIA.

I followed your steps, and everything works from the igpu, but when I put in the gtx 780 sc, I get this error. Any ideas?

  • First, please click the link Build Signature and add your current Build's SPECS in the appropriate boxes and save.
    • Giving a suitable Title like "High Sierra 10.13.X" would refine the build signature and make it clearer.
    • The Specs would then appear below the message entry box through out your posts.
  • I had to go back to #1 to know we are not dealing what is in your Profile as your post did not make sense when correlated with your SPECS in the Profile.
To answer your question to help you, I need to know your current BIOS setup chosen while system disk is being rebooted.
  • I need the following from the BIOS:
    • BIOS Features _Boot Option Priorities
    • Peripherals
    • Chipset
  • CBM screen shots of the following sections:
    • Icons view
    • Options_Boot Args:
    • GraphicsInjector-> ENTER and the screen that opens

Sorry for the frustration I've been causing. I've updated my signature.

Pics attached as requested. I really appreciate your time and effort

  • I see too may icons in the CBM screen and without the label don't know what is what for many there.
  • In view of the facts
    • that you had already installed Nvidia Webdriver for your GeF GTX 780 PCIE card,
    • Selected PCIE and Disabled IGFX in the BIOS
    • (and presumably the Monitor connected to NVIDIA PCIE via digital interface)
  • and still getting the previously uploaded verbose boot screen with gIOScreenLockState 3 [see edited image]
  • I suggest the following from CBM screen (temporarily) to boot the macOS High Sierra System Disk from CBM and see if booting will reach Login>Desktop:[see edited images for details]
    • Boot Args: remove nvda_drv=1 and add -v
    • GraphicsInjector -> Remove [√] InjectNVidia and keep [√]USE NVIDIA WEB
  • Post any problem during boot with verbose boot screen upload
  • If you can reach Desktop, post for any help needed to make further changes to Config.plist to formalize what was done temporarily and any help to edit BIOS Boot Options priorities to streamline .

Doesn't reach Desktop.

Could the gtx780 not be supported? Are AMD's more compatible?

The only way to reach desktop is to have the GPU physically removed. Even if it's in and iGFX is selected, it still won't reach desktop

Doesn't reach Desktop.

Reason: some user error in steps used.

From "About This Mac>Overview" screen shots posted on the Internet, I know, NVIDIA GTX 780 is fully supported in macOS High Sierra .
1.Nvidia GTX 780 with full QE:CI in HS 10.13.3.png

[See uploaded screen shot from the Net]

  • I presume they had used Nvidia Webdriver and Lilu and NvidiaGraphicsFixup or for 10.13.4 the modified NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext_10.13.4_Lag_Fix
Since I don't have Nvidia GTX 780, I have-not personally tested the above. My Nvidia GT 710 is NATIVELY supported in 10.13.4 and DOES NOT require Nvidia Webdriver.

  • In my earlier response at [#4], I got the impression from your post , you wanted to install your Nvidia GTX 780 right away and intended to use the Integrated IGFX Intel HD 530 only temporarily(as a bridge) .

    • That is why the instructions in that post mentioned only how to edit CBM Screen >Options>Graphics Injector Menu. [#4].
  • If I had known you wanted to retain the ability to use either of the two video cards, I could have given you a longer stet-by step response with additional step for that too .
  • You can still accomplish that if you will
    • edit the CLOVER from the EFI folder of System Hard disk exactly the same way as in CBM screen but
      • using Clover Configurator Vibrant to edit the config.plist_ Boot [√] -disablegfxfirmware and
      • config.plist_Devices_Fake ID _IntelGFX =59128086 and
      • config.plist_Graphics [√]InjectIntel and ig-platform-id=59120000 and
      • copy and paste to /EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other the latest Lilu.kext and IntelGraphicsFixup.kext
      • and installed Lilu and IntelGraphicsFixup(or the newly modified version with lag.fix) to /Library/Extensions using Kext Utility , you DON't have to REMOVE GPU .
  • You can then just shut down, switch the Monitor cable to IGFX , and on reboot go to BIOS
  • Change Peripherals to use IGFX with Chipset: DVMT Pre-allocated 128M and then Save BIOS and Boot
  • At CBM_Options >Boot Args make sure -disablegfxfirmware is there and go to
  • GraphicsInjector -> to make sure [√]InjectInte, Fake ID _IntelGFX =59128086 and *-platform-id=5912000 are there.
  • Then you boot the System Disk to Desktop of IGFX screen with full resolution.
  • Once you reach there , you may take another look at what mistakes you might have made in installing the needed kexts for Nvidia GTX 780.
  • You are better off documenting all your steps with Screen shots to upload to make your steps clearer to readers and identify the missed step if problem occurs instead of single liner response that conveys failure without any clue to the cause like
    Doesn't reach Desktop.

Sorry, I must be very confusing

You were right. The only reason I tried taking the GPU out was to figure out what's causing the problem to get more information for you.

I decided to restart from step one again as I was unable to update High Sierra to 10.13.4.
What was happening was, I would download the file no problems, click install, it restarts, but still showing 10.13.3. So I thought hey, I'll create the boot file from 10.13.4. Now the USB shows in BIOS, but doesn't appear in clover. I stupidly erased my hard drive to do a clean install as well.

I've checked https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/install-option-not-showing-on-clover.239526/ & https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/install-option-not-showing-on-clover.239526/; I checked for apfs.efi, file is there. Hasn't really been a solution to this install not appearing issue.
I tried buying a new USB as well, thinking maybe something was wrong with mine. Still same issue

My BIOS is the same(for using igpu to bridge to GPU later), pictures attached. And also the CBM without install macos

As I was reading your above post, the following lines caught my eyes:
What was happening was, I would download the file no problems, click install, it restarts, but still showing 10.13.3. So I thought hey, I'll create the boot file from 10.13.4. Now the USB shows in BIOS, but doesn't appear in clover. I stupidly erased my hard drive to do a clean install as well.

I parsed those lines to isolate the most critical part of those lines as the last but one sentence
Now the USB shows in BIOS, but doesn't appear in clover.

The "USB Installer No show" in Clover Boot Manager [CBM]Screen is a problem reported with the use of latest Unibeast method . I have personally seen that missing USB installer in CBM screen when using Clover EFI 4411 after Installation of macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 using CreateInstallMedia. My solution for that was using Clover EFI from RehabMan Clover_v2.4k_r4444.RM-4652.c1f8602f.zip after CreateInstallMedia command to make USB installer .
Please check this post for details and link to a workaround by Tonymac. #2 to use Unibeast method.

Thank you, it's now visible. As always though, a new problem! haha

I googled the error, ended up on this post: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...act-slow-boot-hid-legacy-shim-2.230952/page-2

ok, i found that it can be TRIM(APFS) issue and it was that.
I've disabled TRIM
Code:
sudo trimforce disable
and `HID: Legacy shim 2` disappeared. Boot time takes ~10s ;)

so now it's fine but i'm thinking is it good to have TRIM disabled...?

Where would I punch that code in? As it doesn't reach the Desktop

  • Your post DOES NOT say how "it's now visible'"
  • To understand the "new problem", the steps you took to overcome previous problem should be spelled out completely and not left to be guessed .
    • Adding a link to another post and asking helpers to go and read is not a good strategy to get help.
    • Whatever you have done should be posted here and you may give a link to the source on which you had based the used steps if you really want to be comprehensive.
  • The uploaded verbose boot screen's visible text, DOES NOT point to any problem.
    • If you have missed to capture the critical portion indicating problems, that could be an explanation for that.
    • Without an evidence for a problem it is impossible to suggest a troubleshoot.

  • No idea what you are referring to.
  • Which error did you google?
    • If you post a link to a different post, your question should be addressed to that poster who would know what they have posted.
    • Posting such things here will only muddy this post more.

Thanks for your constructive criticism.

Let's go back to #17

I'm creating the boot drive from my MBP mid 2010. I used the code presented by MacMan:
Code (Text):
rm -f /Volumes/Install\ macOS\ High\ Sierra/.IAPhysicalMedia

Code (Text):
rm -rf /Volumes/ESP/EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other/USBInjectAll.kext

, from the link you provided, into my terminal after creating a boot drive using Unibeast. I got past the missing installer USB not showing, to installation not go through, so I checked for the most recent UniBeast, (8.3.2), and I had no trouble installing macOS with UniBeast 8.3.2.
________________

Where I'm at now:
I'm running into, what seems like, graphics issues different from before. With the GPU removed from the motherboard, macOS loads to desktop and functional, except for black trails and distortions when having multiple tabs open, however, not a main concern because I just need it to run on the GPU.
When I boot with GPU connected, I run into issue shown in picture.

I have installed latest nvidia drivers for 10.13.4, NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext_10.13.4_Lag_Fix, Shiki.kext, Lilu.kext, and used kext wizard to load kexts to /System/Library/Extensions.
