Intel's 8th Generation Coffee Lake CPUs Natively Recognized by macOS High Sierra

Possible we will see Coffee Lake Mac Mini’s soon.

Apple has always put lower TDP laptop chips into the Mac Mini in the past. It's a lot harder to cool the desktop class CPUs in that small enclosure. Maybe if they redesign the chassis and cooling system we might see the 4 core i3-8100. I wouldn't bet on it but that would be a nice Mini with an NVME SSD and 16 GB of DDR4 ram. Would be more than just an internet surfing capable Mac Mini for a change. It may be more likely that they put the 8100 in an entry level 21.5" iMac instead.

I had a sneaky feeling that High Sierra had some Coffee Lake support, as I was able to get full graphics acceleration when using intel UHD630 graphics without using FakeCPU ID.

Possible we will see Coffee Lake Mac Mini’s soon.
It's worth noting that 'erik' found that the Intel graphics were not supported for current CL cpus lower than the i5-8400, as those device IDs differ: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...-i5-8400-uhd-630-graphics-high-sierra.239157/
I imagine this will change if/when Apple releases any Macs using these lower-spec'ed cpus.

My own Coffee Lake i5-8600K build has been rock-solid since I put it together nearly a month ago. Not a single KP. Very fast overall, especially with 6 cores OC'ed and the NVMe PCIe SSD.

Did it!! Z370 Aorus Gaming 7, 8700K, Corsair H100i v2 water cooler 2x 970 EVGA Nividia in SLI, 16 mb of ddr4 3200 Ram G.Skillz zrgb , 2x140mm Corsair blue led. 1x 120mm Corsair Blue LED, 2x Samsung EVO 850 500GB and 1x M.2 960 Evo 500gb 850W Powerplant platinum. Wow they don't make them like they used too! I have a Fractal design(These are great) case with 1 side tempered glass LEDs are so pretty. Running 10.13.1 Need to test it now..

Graphics acceleration for intel Quad Core i3 could be supported in future OS X update, especially if they decide to use i3 in low end Mac Mini.

Works like a charm for a month. Absolutely high performance and component support. For internal iGPU support FakeIntel and ig-platform-id neccessary, but anything else works native.

Great news for those of you who want to build using the latest bleeding edge hardware. Intel's new 8th Generation Coffee Lake CPUs paired with 300 Series motherboards are recognized by macOS High Sierra without using a spoofed CPU ID. This means that this combination works with our site's UniBeast and MultiBeast tools.

Coffee Lake CPUs include the first hexacore (6 core) Core i7 CPU ever made for consumer-based hardware as well as the first quad-core Core i3 CPU. New 300 Series motherboards are required for Coffee Lake CPUs- although the socket is called LGA1151, 100/200 Series motherboards are incompatible.

Please note that for now we're still recommending 7th Generation Kaby Lake CPUs + 200 Series motherboards in our Buyer's Guide as methods to enable full functionality are well known and documented.

That's great news.

I agree, although I do use my real Mac Mini for slightly more adventurous stuff. Coffee Lake specs didn't seem to offer much lower power consumption overall so I guess 4-core cooling might mean a bigger Mini chassis - something I actually read about as possible on a Mac news site...

That the code for CL is in HS gives us tantalising glimpses of the future!

:)

What SMBIOS can be used for Coffee Lake mobile i7 8550?

Good to hear, even though I have no intention of using High Sierra and Coffee Lake any time soon, having bought my Kaby Lake system in July and happily using Sierra. I also tested one of my X99 computers with a Core i7 5820K and it can also run Sierra, so Coffee Lake is not that important to me.
