[GUIDE] Sierra on the GA-Z170X-UD3

Thanks for the useful guide @cnrd . I have two questions:

1) For my build I would just like to use to the integrated graphics. How will the procedure differ for me? I am getting stuck at "Boot Mac OS X from USB" step. I assume that some BIOS settings will be different, and I assume I don't need to enter the nv_disabled=1 bootflag in Clover.

2) Is there any disadvantage to enabling a port for both USB 2.0 and 3.0?

I'm not sure about 1, as I don't use the integrated graphics.

No there is no disadvantage to enabling it for both, the reason I did it that way is mostly to allow people to choose for them selves what they need on each port as there is a 15 port limit (say you use a port for a dedicated 2.0 device (mouse/keyboard/microphone) and would rather enable another port, then you can just choose not to enable the 3.0 port).

Decided to take the leap and install F21 again and try to make it stable. I couldn't just stay without thunderbolt as well, so I needed to reinstall it.

It seems to be pretty stable. I'm not having problems with the USB after updating.

I wasn't getting any video output when using MacPro6,1, it was only working with the iMac definitions.

I've installed AGDPfix and all is good now.

Could you provide your kexts and clover configuration? I cannot for the life of me get past the 'mbstring' since updating to F21.

Sure, here you go. I'm uploading the ACPI/patched folder ; the kexts/other folder and the config.plist.

Make sure you put in your own serial number as I've replaced mine with Xes.

Thanks man. Will post back if I succeed!

I have been experimenting with an EFI partition modeled off of simple MultiBeast config, and the more complex one following the steps in this guide. I've had mixed results in both cases, so I'm sure there is a fair amount of user error here. I have a couple of bigger picture questions if anyone is willing to answer them:
  1. In general, why the manual route here instead of starting from a UniBeast/MultiBeast configuration? I'm trying to understand the advantages that might persuade me to choose one path and stick with it.
  2. I have been backing up the EFI partition and just restoring it to one or the other. Is that valid, or are these methods changing files on the OS partition too?
  3. UniBeast/MultiBeast defaults to iMac 14,2. This guide started as a MacPro, and then later changed to an iMac 17. Is the goal behind this trying to mirror the CPUs found in the apple hardware?
  4. I've had the least success getting nVidia drivers to work consistently (boot and sleep/wake) with either method of install. I've seen two threads devoted to this ("Solving NVIDIA Driver Install & Loading Problems" and "Black Screen with MacPro 6,1 or iMac 15 or iMac 17 System Definition") and am still struggling. Are there any specifics people with this board have done, or is the monitor we're attaching to a big factor here?
  5. Anyone with this board updated to 10.12.3?
  6. What is the advantage to upgrading BIOS on this board? Are there fixes you guys are gaining by upgrading?
Sorry so many questions.

Thanks!

Hello!

I'll leave 1 and 2 to someone else, as I can't really answer.

3. I've been switching around between iMac17,1 and MacPro6,1 and they both seemed to work fine. Although iMac17,1 was working without AGDPfix, MacPro6,1 was not working without it - black screen.

4. I have a GTX 970 and it works pretty flawlessly. I'm using MacPro6,1 with AGDPfix now and it seems stable.

5. Yes, I'm on 10.12.3 and F21 BIOS.

6. For me, updating to F21 solved my thunderbolt problem in a way. I have a Asus ThunderboltEX2 and it was not working before. It's tricky to make it work though anyway.

1. I've done a mixture of Multibeast Setup and most Efi Files from here - works fine.

4. AGDPfix 1.3 works very well. I also have a GTX970. MacPro6.1 an iMac17,1 was working but i not able to sign in with my apple ID and use iMessage with the MacPro6.1 setup. iMac17,1 work flawless.

5. 10.12.3 with the 7c

I have also a question. I overclocked my system to 4.4 but the ssdtPRGen.sh script didn't work. about my mac is showing only 4ghz? I put the generated ssdt file to the patched folder on efi. is there some special renaming necessary?

PS.:Anybody with a picture how the new bios is looking? i hear it looks aweful?

Thanks for the reply. I'm using iMac17,1 right now, and tried AGDPfix 1.3 without success. I noticed a difference between using HDMI and DisplayPort. On DisplayPort, about half-way during bootup the screen goes black (if I nv_disable it comes up fine), but on HDMI I boot up regardless of what I select, but no graphics acceleration (and no graphic card detected in system info.)
