[Update] Sierra on the Skylake H170N-WIFI

Status

FYI, I installed the F20 bios before I realized someone else had issues, and I've done multiple installs with no problems other than the problems I was having before I upgraded bios (namely audio and graphics with a 740 card--can't get Nvidia web drivers to stick). So YMMV. Absolutely zero issues with the actual install. Just another data point.

could you post your refi and the bios settings please?

thanks

Sure! By the way, I had time to troubleshoot graphics and sound last night and got both working. Graphics problem keeping the driver after reboot does appear to be a bios issue with the new F20 bios, but just requires that you install emuvariableefi in clover after installing the web drivers (I'm using the Geforce GT 740 card). Fix for sound was the usual fix.

Copy of my config.plist uploaded.

My BIOS settings are as follows: Boot 1: fastboot is disabled, win 8/10 is other os, LAN PXE is disabled, storage boot is UEFI, other PCI is UEFI, Initial Display is PCIe 1 slot, onboard LAN is enabled, intel trust is disabled, intel bios guard is disabled, network stack is disabled, legacy usb is enabled, XHCI hand-off is enabled, USB mass storage enabled, port emulation enabled, vt-d disabled, audio controller enabled, pch-lan enabled, wake on lan enabled, high precision timer enabled, IOAPIC enabled, platform power management is disabled.

Of note, in clover KernelPM is selected. Ok, attaching config.

I had zero issues with multiple installs: I installed 10.12 (not 10.12.1) using unibeast and multi beast 9.0.1 using recommended settings for H170N-wifi. The reason for multiple installs was I was mucking around with graphics, and I made the mistake of updating to 10.12.1 and then not getting wifi working under it, so I reinstalled. Currently everything working after the graphic fix for my card that I talked about.

The F20 BIOS install fixed the problem with ghost/multiple boot entries that I was having, so I don't regret it, even though I had to do an extra step to install emuvariableefi.

Does wake from sleep work on this MB?

UPGRADE TO 10.12.2 UPDATE:

FWIW, still using the F20 bios, I changed my sysdef from 14,2 to 17,1 (to better match my hardware), ran AGDP fix 1.3 to fix audio problems with that sysdef, and upgraded from 10.12 directly to 10.12.2. No problems and everything works. I had to rerun ALC1150 kext for sound, and rerun the CodecCommander kext specific to 1150 to fix audio after sleep because the update broke that. The update also broke wifi and bluetooth so I implemented those fixes listed for 10.12.1. Once again everything is running smooth as butter.

I am planning to update my bios to F20.
I want to make sure I can boot my system, so I will read once more every post mentioned F20.
Is KernelPM selecting the only thing you have to do for making F20 to work?

Could you please post your config again for iMac 17.1?
Does your machine work better as it did with iMac 14.2?

thanks a lot

As well as selecting KernelPM I had to install EmuvariableEFI in clover/install drivers. The EMUVARIABLEEFI was necessary to make settings stick in NVRAM (notably NVIDIA graphics drivers) when I rebooted. These were the only differences from prior installs with a different BIOS.

My machine is probably more power-efficient now with this definition, but I don't do any gaming so I haven't noticed any speed/efficiency differences and didn't expect to without testing the hardware/power states. I'll do that at some point this week and post an update. And selecting the 17,1 definition absolutely made this more difficult--that's the whole reason I had to run AGDP 1.3 script to fix graphics. (the whole definition switch was unnecessary, but I like to fool around with things)

New config.plist included.

If you do decide to update the BIOS I'd love to know if it goes smoothly for you too, or if you run into problems.

after the 10.12.2 update my bluetooth wasn't working initially. updated to new Nvidia web driver and restarted and bluetooth started working again, weird.
Handoff and Apple Watch unlock still don't work.

Thanks a lot

I have updated the bios to F20. The EMUVARIABLEEFI and Inject NvidiaWeb was all I had to do. (before my gpu worked without injecting NvidiaWeb)

The thousand-and-one boot options are gone now with the new bio which is good. The only thing I don't like is that the F20 bios is ugly like hell.

If everything is working, why update to the new bios at all? I won't be.
