I'm making some progress, but sleep and shutdown are still not working.
I've tried booting in safe mode and with no caches/kext injection, still doesn't shutdown properly.
I don't mind not having sleep, but proper shutdown is crucial. I'm experiencing weirdness and crashes because I have to switch the power off at just the right moment, which is hard.

Any ideas? Is there anyone with a Z170X-UD5-TH that can shutdown properly?

Here is what I do: Instead of trying to shutdown your computer randomly, when clover pops up for your os choice just hit up/down/left/right so it doesn't auto load OSX, then just hold down you power button on your case for a few seconds and it will shut off your computer. What I'm guessing is this is a bios firmware problem that gigabyte can fix.

Update:
After installing OSX on a 850 EVO, everything works fine.
The SM951 seems to be the problem.
AH! Looks like you didn't install the NVMe driver then for M2 card, I don't have one of the drives, and can't offer much support, but a quick search brought this up (install this kext) http://www.macvidcards.com/nvme-driver1.html

Thanks for the tip. That's better than trying to hit the power switch at just the right moment. But still, a kludge. Firmware problem is what I'm thinking too, or maybe something that should be fixed in a proper DSDT.

There seem to be some problems with the NVMe driver in my setup, so i'll stay with the 850 evo ;)

As you stated in your first post:

What doesn't work
  • Sleep
  • Shutdown Issues (computer restarts after shutdown)
  • Thunderbolt (says no hardware in system info)

I've got the same problem.
Do you use a bluetooth dongle? Without it my system shuts down correctly.
We are not alone with this problem: http://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/immediate-reboot-after-shutdown.192350/

I, too, have the shutdown problem with my Gene system which uses a Samsung 950 Pro M.2 NVMe SSD and the NVMe kext. I did just what jerivalu does to shutdown. It's no big thing. It will probably get better once Apple supports NVMe and not their propriety version of it.

Sleep/wake-up works. Take a look at my Gene build description to see if it offers any insights to your problem.

BTW, did you set you Security System Preference Panel to Anybody? Again, see my build description this trick.

Thanks for your reply, Stork.

Not using NVMe, just plain old SATA SSD's. Will upgrade if I have some more money.

Just did. No new insights, alas.

Anybody? You mean anywhere? Yes.

I'm determined to get this build right, and will share my findings/insights.

The strange thing is... I was not having the shutdown problem on Mavericks... it appeared when I switched to Yosemite.
I'm on GA-z97x-UD&TH

I have working on my machine all weekend, and doing shutdowns to test.
No problem. First time I shutdown today, it restartet.
Got my fans running, by moving them to cpu and cpu_opt

Hi everone!

Any news on the thunderbolt working?
I have an UA Apollo and can't find a Thunderbolt 2 board anymore...
Really thinking about this one if works properly.

Thanks you all!
