Overview:

This build is originally for my Windows 7 environment but decided to get into Apple products since I haven't used a Macintosh since Macintosh Classic II, and I had an iPod Touch when they first came out, and also since I have much more web design work than I used to.
Every component listed was chosen for PC, so I listed them all under "Already Owned".

The Installation of Mountain Lion

I created a UniBeast thumbdrive: UniBeast: Install OS X Mountain Lion on Any Supported Intel-based PC

I left all my USB devices plugged into the same ports that I use them on in Windows 7.
The same goes for my hard drives, I left them all plugged in.
I am not saying you should leave them plugged in, I took a chance. Maybe I just had them plugged into the proper ports.

I plugged Monitor1 (mini-displayport) into the thunderbolt port, and left Monitor2 unplugged.

Step 1 - Bios:

I switched over to Bios2 and used the patched Bios from Z77 | Bios Repo
Put the M5E.CAP onto a thumbdrive, plug it into the white port (USB Flashback/ROG Connect) on the back of the board, and press the USB Flashback/ROG Connect button until it starts flashing, then wait for the light to turn off. (Read section 2.2 of the motherboard manual!)

I then loaded optimized defaults, in the "Boot" menu I set the hard drive I was going to use for Mac OS X as #1 in the "Boot Option Priority" menu.

Step 2 - Installing Mountain Lion:

I installed Mountain Lion also using the "UniBeast: Install OS X Mountain Lion on Any Supported Intel-based PC" guide.
I did not need to use any boot flags. It all went very smooth.

After the install I booted using my UniBeast thumbdrive.

Step 3 - MultiBeast:

I attached two screenshots of my exact MultiBeast 5.2.1 settings that I used after the installation.

After MultiBeast finished installing I rebooted normally, without the UniBeast thumbdrive.

Step 4 - Updating to Mac OS X 10.9.2:

Installing Mavericks & MultiBeast 6.0 (including Chimera 2.2.1) has fixed my FaceTime:)

The update was very easy. I followed the normal update instructions: OS X 10.9.2 Update and installed it on top of Mountain Lion 10.8.5 (did not do a fresh install).

Step 5 - Using DSDT:

Read my post #59 for instructions on creating a DSDT and using it.

Summary and Notes

Fully Working
  • OSX Mountain Lion 10.9.2
  • HD4000 On-board Graphics
  • Discrete Graphics
  • Audio
  • USB 2.0/3.0 (haven't tested speeds)
  • eSATA
  • DVD Playback & Burning
  • iMessage
  • FaceTime

Not Working

Untested
  • Firewire

Issue 1 - iMessage:

When I log into my Apple account through iMessage (Message Preferences -> Accounts -> iMessage account), I get an error saying:
"Your Apple ID "######@gmail.com" can't be used to set up iMessage at this time."

You are supposed to be able to fix this by installing Chimera 2.0, but this did not work for me. On-going problem. I will update if I get it fixed.

FIXED: I added my credit card information to my Apple account and I was able to log into iMessage.

Issue 2 - USB 3.0:

I originally thought my USB 3.0 ports were working, including Front Panel, but after rebooting the system wouldn't start. I had to boot into my cloned backup, and remove the CalDigit kexts to get it to boot again.

I have NO idea how to fix this except to install CalDigit's kexts after each reboot.

FIXED: Read my post #59 to fix the USB ports.

Nice build :)

I came across your thread while searching for a fix for iMessage in 10.8.3 on my new Hackintosh. Turns out it's a pretty simple fix.. just go to the tonymacx86 downloads area and get Chimera 2.0.1. Run the installer and reboot. Boom. Works fine now.

Thought I'd leave a quick update for you or anyone else searching.

Thank you :)

If you read "Step 4 - Chimera 2.0.1 & Chameleon Wizard" you will see I installed Chimera 2.0.1 already and it didn't fix my problem.

Have you tried updating Chimera through Chameleon Wizard? Worked for me...

Not yet. I have seen two ways people update using Chameleon Wizard:
  1. Boot0hfs
  2. Update

Which way are you supposed to use?

Boot0hfs or Boot1hfs is for multi OS setups so that you can apply the update to a specific drive

whereas

Update is simply to update the currently mounted and running partition

either is ok really, depends on your setup.

Yeah, pretty much just like the descriptions say. A few installations ago I did try "Update" but ended up getting a kernel panic.

I am cloning my drive now and I'll try it when it's done.

I'm running version 2.2 r2187 with no issues so safe to try that one.

THanks Jinhu, but that still did not fix it. In fact it made things worse by not detecting my second monitor. I had to Re-install Chimera 2.0.1 to get it working again.

EDIT: I tried my friends apple account and I was able to log into iMessages. Anyone know why my apple account (######@gmail.com) won't work?

EDIT2: I added my credit card information on my Apple account, and now I can log into iMessage
