Overview:
This build is originally for my Windows 7 environment but decided to get into Apple products since I haven't used a Macintosh since Macintosh Classic II, and I had an iPod Touch when they first came out, and also since I have much more web design work than I used to.
Every component listed was chosen for PC, so I listed them all under "Already Owned".
The Installation of Mountain Lion
I created a UniBeast thumbdrive: UniBeast: Install OS X Mountain Lion on Any Supported Intel-based PC
I left all my USB devices plugged into the same ports that I use them on in Windows 7.
The same goes for my hard drives, I left them all plugged in.
I am not saying you should leave them plugged in, I took a chance. Maybe I just had them plugged into the proper ports.
I plugged Monitor1 (mini-displayport) into the thunderbolt port, and left Monitor2 unplugged.
Step 1 - Bios:
I switched over to Bios2 and used the patched Bios from Z77 | Bios Repo
Put the M5E.CAP onto a thumbdrive, plug it into the white port (USB Flashback/ROG Connect) on the back of the board, and press the USB Flashback/ROG Connect button until it starts flashing, then wait for the light to turn off. (Read section 2.2 of the motherboard manual!)
I then loaded optimized defaults, in the "Boot" menu I set the hard drive I was going to use for Mac OS X as #1 in the "Boot Option Priority" menu.
Step 2 - Installing Mountain Lion:
I installed Mountain Lion also using the "UniBeast: Install OS X Mountain Lion on Any Supported Intel-based PC" guide.
I did not need to use any boot flags. It all went very smooth.
After the install I booted using my UniBeast thumbdrive.
Step 3 - MultiBeast:
I attached two screenshots of my exact MultiBeast 5.2.1 settings that I used after the installation.
After MultiBeast finished installing I rebooted normally, without the UniBeast thumbdrive.
Step 4 - Updating to Mac OS X 10.9.2:
Installing Mavericks & MultiBeast 6.0 (including Chimera 2.2.1) has fixed my FaceTime
The update was very easy. I followed the normal update instructions: OS X 10.9.2 Update and installed it on top of Mountain Lion 10.8.5 (did not do a fresh install).
Step 5 - Using DSDT:
Read my post #59 for instructions on creating a DSDT and using it.
Summary and Notes
Fully Working
Not Working
Untested
Issue 1 - iMessage:
When I log into my Apple account through iMessage (Message Preferences -> Accounts -> iMessage account), I get an error saying:
"Your Apple ID "######@gmail.com" can't be used to set up iMessage at this time."
You are supposed to be able to fix this by installing Chimera 2.0, but this did not work for me. On-going problem. I will update if I get it fixed.
FIXED: I added my credit card information to my Apple account and I was able to log into iMessage.
Issue 2 - USB 3.0:
I originally thought my USB 3.0 ports were working, including Front Panel, but after rebooting the system wouldn't start. I had to boot into my cloned backup, and remove the CalDigit kexts to get it to boot again.
I have NO idea how to fix this except to install CalDigit's kexts after each reboot.
FIXED: Read my post #59 to fix the USB ports.
