Comments

  • So I joined the forum not long ago hoping to make a Dell MB and some other stuffs work. I found that was too much so i decided to grab a new MB + CPU based on the recommendations from the forum
  • I wanted this build because I never had a Mac Pro (or MAC desktop) and I have a feeling my MBP is not going to hold for too long. Need a permanent backup for all media that i have.
  • For this build i really just had to buy the CPU+MB combo based on the forum's recommendations. MC had a sale so the investment was minimal ($240). The rest I've already had from another spare PC.
  • I just followed tony's instructions here after going into BIOS to make sure I restored to default, changed SATA to AHCI, and set USB to boot #1.
    http://www.tonymacx86.com/61-unibeast-install-os-x-mountain-lion-any-supported-intel-based-pc.html
  • Installation was straight forward, simple, and without any problem. Once i'm in the desktop, i followed instructions here to add the driver for the ethernet, which was recently developed by a user from insanelymac (thankful for that). Here is the link if anyone's interested:
    http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/to...heros-ar813132515261627172-driver-for-107108/
  • Also i used the settings in this post for MultiBeast, minus anything for the SSD since i dont have one:
    http://www.tonymacx86.com/golden-bu...ild-i7-3770k-ga-z77-ds3h-16gb-ram-6850-a.html
  • So far I have not noticed anything but success. In details:
    - Sleep/wake works
    - Audio works
    - Ethernet works
    - App store works (got "notification email from Apple that my Apple ID was used to log in from a Mac Pro"!!!)
  • I also did a "migration" with my MBP laptop using direct ethernet link and now i have everything from the laptop onto the "Mac Pro".
  • Last but not least - thanks all for the helpful information provided in this forum and elsewhere. Thanks MOD for the notification about posting build's rules.

Thanks so much for your post! I went out and bought this board and was originally upset to learn that it wasn't as easy to install OSX on. However, your thread has given me the hope and assurance I need to continue! Thank you very much!:D

Hey np. I've just learned from other ppl too. Since you have an identical build, it should be straight forward for you. I did play around with installation on the Dell MB i have so i know its not easy, but this build it is easy. Ppl here have done the work for us already. Lets thank them again and enjoy!

I've used the same logic board, and CPU. It's been running stable for a week now. I'm using an SSD as the system drive and boot time is less than 20 seconds. I played around with the sound and ethernet and couldn't get either to work. I bought a SYBA SD-CM-UAUD71 USB Sound Adapter for $9.99 plus shipping from Newegg and it worked natively without a driver. I'm looking for a PCI ethernet card that will also work out of the box but haven't found one yet. I'm using an ASUS Wireless N USB WIFI dongle and it's working great so far.

Auto sleep doesn't always work and I'm using a Rocketfish USB Bluetooth dongle to use my Apple wireless keyboard and Magic Mouse but it doesn't recognize my Apple Magic Trackpad.

I set it up using Multibeast but couldn't get it to work until I used the USB 2.0 port instead of the 3.0 port. All of the ports are working great after installation. I can live with it as is but I'd like to get wired networking working.

Interesting because I've been having audio fine and I'm even going to return the WIFI 4800 card i bought and never used it because of the fact that my ethernet has been working great.

I can confirm this worked fine for me.

My specs:
Z77-DS3H (not sure on rev but ethernet didn't work for me out of the box)
32gig komputerbay ram
samsung 830 ssd
evga 650gtx

Everything works perfectly including sleep and wake.

I have the same mobo.
and here this is the bluetooth dongle i used for trackpad and keyboard and it works PERFECT! http://dx.com/p/ultra-mini-bluetooth-v2-0-usb-dongle-black-69267

good luck!

Thanks Rick. I just ordered the bluetooth dongle you recommended. I used a Targus dongle the other day and it worked perfectly, until I set up the magic Trackpad. Now it won't wake from sleep.

I also ordered a Dynex - Gigabit PCI Desktop Ethernet Adapter DX-PCIGB from Amazon's Marketplace, installed it and now I've got wired networking. So with the exception of a few minor problems, everything's working pretty good including Apple's App Store.

Thanks again,

Bill
