Hello all, this is my 1st post and I have to say this site is just phenomenal.
I intend to build a budget-oriented (here in Brazil stuff is about 2x the USA price) maverick hackintosh with:

- Ga-h87-hd3 motherboard

- Intel I5 4460 processor

- 8gb Corsair Vengeance Ddr3 1600mhz

- Corsair CS power, wattage depending on graphic card

- Case Cooler Master Silencio 550

You will notice that the graphic card is missing above. Well, thats my question:

In March 2014's Buyer Guide, the Nvidia's 650/660/670/680 lines of graphic cards were all included as recommended cards for hackintosh build.

However, from April, all these boards have been removed, letting us poor budget newbie builders with only two choices: the weak GT640 or the ubber powerful and much more expensive GT760.

What is the reason for this? Are the 650/660/670/680 really problematic?

Best regards,
Renato

Moderators, anyone?

It would be great for the general public to have a mid-price alternative for the GPU... Help please,

Best

I am pretty certain that they have been removed from the guide as they are becoming unavailable in many markets (not sure where TonyMac is located). Here in Canada at ncix the 650 and 670 has disappeared and the 660's are becoming rare, in favour of the 7xx series of boards.

I have not heard of any fundamental reason they can't be used with success if that is what you have access to. There are many happy users of these boards and I would be very surprised if support for them ceases any time soon. That said, you should expect longer support from more recent models. I just got a 660 a couple of months ago when they started being discounted, and expect to be using it for 5+ years.

Thanks Agrajag!

These are my options down here in Brazil (taxes make prices almost double):

Brand GPU USD Price
EVGA GT 640 2gb DDR3 128bits 145
EVGA GTX 650 1gb DDR5 128 bits 291
EVGA GTX 660 2gb DDR5 192 bits 317
Gigabyte GTX 760 2gb DDR5 256 bits 430
MSI GTX N770 2gb FFR5 256 bits 543

The GTX 660 was my strong favorite, and your comment just gave me the courage to go get it.

It will allow some room for improvements on the games graphics (where the 640 would only allow minimum configs).

Ahh but the 770 is tempting...

Best
