Always best to use 2.0 ports for those dongles so they don't get as hot and burn out on you.

Yes but the laptop only had 3.0 and this as before hackintool USB tool. It worked well for a few months until it didn’t.

Another option for WiFi only, especially if you don’t have a free slot, is a USB WiFi dongle.

The following one works perfectly on my Dell 7010 USFF. A driver from Edimax is required to use it but it is a native MacOS app and works fine:

No, I don’t think so because airdrop requires Bluetooth.
