Comments

This is my first Hackingtosh build, so I'm proud to present my build:

I purchased the graphics card because I want to play games on windows and it works OOB in Mac OS X.

Wireless card works also out of the box. Even when I'm in the installer screens. which is a big plus in my opinion.

The Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO fan is a silent fan and also a little bit better then the 212+ version. Unfortunately it is close to the memory bank that is closest to the CPU socket, so you need to use Low Profile dimms.

I choose the motherboard because of tonymacx86's build.

Since this is my first Hackingtosh Build, any comments are welcome. Do you have any questions, feel free to ask them. I will try to answer them as good as possible.

UPDATE:
So I've update my rig to ML. Here's what I did.

Buy and download ML from the AppStore.
Create a unibeast USB stick.
Move the ATI6000Controller.kext from /System/Library/Extensions to the root of the USB.

Make a backup from your system using carbon copy cloner or others tools that can make a complete backup of you harddrive.

Reboot and go into the BIOS.
Go to the advanced setup screen.
Go to Peripherals Set the option Init Display First to IGFX
Set the option Internal Graphics to Enable (Auto did not work for me)
Leave Internal Graphics Memory Size on 64
Save and Exit

Turn off computer
Connect monitor cable to onboard video.

Boot from USB
I did a clean install

Reboot from USB again (still connected to onboard)
Run Multibeast 5

mb5.png

Move the ATI6000Controller.kext form the root of the USB to your desktop.
Use Kextbeast to install the ATI6000Controller.kext in /System/Library/Extensions.
Reboot and go into the BIOS
Set the option back the default:
Init Display First to Auto
Internal Graphics to Auto
Save and Exit

Turn off computer and connect monitor cable to graphics card.
Reboot
Update to 10.8.1 without extra steps to be taken. No need to re-run multibeast.

Done.

Note that the ATI6000Controller.kext is not visible in normal operation of osx or the directories that it's in. To make it visible use this.
If you are still experiencing problems, pull out the AMD card.

Re: Succes!! StormTrooper Build - GA-Z77-DS3H/i7-3770K/HD6870

Looking forward to pics not sure if it works as I have not tried but I read somewhere that their is a option in mulitbeast (auto corrected) that allows you to enable USB 3.0

Re: Succes!! StormTrooper Build - GA-Z77-DS3H/i7-3770K/HD6870

Congratiulations on your first build, martva! :D

I'm still a virgin, but I'm getting my parts next week - they are almost identical with yours - just without the extra gfx-card.

I'm gonna try using only the Intel HD4000...Have you had any time to test it?

Have you encountered any other problems? Hang-ups, app's not working or the like?

Cheers!

Re: Succes!! StormTrooper Build - GA-Z77-DS3H/i7-3770K/HD6870

@mr-proper:
I did not try HDMI audio, because of lack of proper HDMI audio equipement.
Normal audio the goed through the jack plugs at the back of the mainboard en front panel are working perfectly for me. Same goes for Mic.

@Stork:
See build's initial post.

@batman26:
The USB3 option in Multibeast is for NEC chipsets if i'm not mistaken on this mainboard it is controlled by intel.

@pmeisner:
Thanks.
Did not have time to test the HD4000. I'm really looking forward to hear your experience.

As far as I experienced now, I had no crashing apps.
The only thing that did not work for me is the possibility to "Find My Mac", but that would due to the hackintosh build which uses a different identifier than a real mac.

I did however had some problems with the install while under bridgehelper 4. I could only use the SATA3 ports. The chipset was recognized as 'unknown'. I didn't do a re-install yet with bridgehelper 5. My geus is that since bridgehelper 5 this will not be an issue any more. Now the chipset is recognized as 'Intel 7-series chipset'

Re: Succes!! StormTrooper Build - GA-Z77-DS3H/i7-3770K/HD6870

You didn't have to pick Chimera in MultiBeast as it's a default when you choose EasyBeast or UserDSDT. See page 3 of the MultiBeast Features document that came with the MultiBeast zip file.

BTW, tonymacx86 uses the MultiBeast UserDSDT option without a DSDT for the GA-Z77-DS3H just to get the default items.
