[tl;dr]
Seriously, just follow ammulder's instructions here

This has been a long time coming, since 2013 I had the choice to build my own PC or to buy a mac (my budget was $2,000). Since where I live there are literally no computer stores that sell components, they only sell pre-built PC's and at ridiculous prices; it was near impossible to build my own computer, and I decided to get a MacBook Pro. Never having used or even held a MacBook Pro in my life, I was skeptical of the "pricing", but, when I got it, I fell in love and decided to build my own Hackintosh.

After a long while (November 2015) I had saved up enough cash to buy some parts and despite knowing that Skylake wasn't supported I went ahead with it.

After having read and tried many times, I never even got passed the install. Essentially, I gave up and installed windows 10 and had settled there until a week ago (end of April 2015) and decided to give it a try.

I'M COMPLETELY SERIOUS when I say that the entire process only took about 2 hours!
It was so simple. I just searched Skylake and found ammulder's post and followed the instructions exactly a VIOLA! it worked perfectly the first try.

SUMMARY

WHAT WORKS
  • On-board graphics
  • Discrete GPU
  • Ethernet
  • Audio
  • USB ports (all working) Haven't tried the Type-C port, yet
  • Power management (sleep mode)

WHAT DOESN'T WORK
  • On-board wifi

One last thing. I know that the on-board wifi card doesn't work but since I have a mini-iTX board I only have 1 PCI-E (GTX 970) slot and don't really want to run cabling all the way to my PC. Does anyone know a work around to this problem or perhaps some USB device? BTW I know I can get an m.2 card but I want to use my m.2 for a 950 pro when I get the cash. Thanks!

I would just look for a cheap USB wifi adapter for now or bridge an ethernet connection with a laptop's wifi connection. Otherwise start editing kexts lol. Good luck!

Any luck with the WIFI? I'm about to try this build...

The Gigabyte "N" or WiFi motherboards all use a non OS X compatible WiFi/BT combo mPCIe card. In my Hector (H97N) system, I replaced the Gigabyte WiFi/BT card with an iMac WiFi AC1300/BT 4 card and mPCIe adapter card (see my signature block). The unforeseen benefit is that the BT allows the keyboard and mouse work in the BIOS, although I still have to get into the BIOS with a USB keyboard. Another benefit of using the iMac WiFi/BT card is that wake-up from sleep can be accomplished by the Apple Mighty Mouse. Unfortunately, the prices have doubled for the iMac card since I built my system, so your only other choice is the Edimax AC1200 USB 3.0 dongle which I used until I got the iMac card. More info in my Hector build description.

I found the solution to the memory issue. You have to fill in all the blanks in the Clover config.plist SMBIOS section about the memory modules. Pretty easy fix.

All good. I switched my build over to the ASRock Z170 Gaming Mini-ITX motherboard. Almost everything seems to work

I have the same motherboard, CPU and the EVGA GeForce GTX 950. Following this guide (ammulder's mentioned above), I have had good progress.

When I select sleep from the apple menu, the monitor turns off... but the fans keep running. No change in rpm. The only indication I get that it went to sleep is the monitor goes black. It "wakes up" with either the mouse or the keyboard and seems to work fine.

Why would the fans keep running if it actually goes to sleep?

****Never Mind**** The fans go to sleep after about 30 seconds. Normal.

Has anyone figured out the built-in Wi-Fi issue on the board?

Hey guys, I know this is an El Capitan thread, but has anyone managed to get Sierra up and running on this board? I can install El Capitan and upgrade my way there (albeit with broken things) but for the life of me I can not get the USB installer to run without the prohibited logo.
