[tl;dr]
Seriously, just follow ammulder's instructions here
This has been a long time coming, since 2013 I had the choice to build my own PC or to buy a mac (my budget was $2,000). Since where I live there are literally no computer stores that sell components, they only sell pre-built PC's and at ridiculous prices; it was near impossible to build my own computer, and I decided to get a MacBook Pro. Never having used or even held a MacBook Pro in my life, I was skeptical of the "pricing", but, when I got it, I fell in love and decided to build my own Hackintosh.
After a long while (November 2015) I had saved up enough cash to buy some parts and despite knowing that Skylake wasn't supported I went ahead with it.
After having read and tried many times, I never even got passed the install. Essentially, I gave up and installed windows 10 and had settled there until a week ago (end of April 2015) and decided to give it a try.
I'M COMPLETELY SERIOUS when I say that the entire process only took about 2 hours!
It was so simple. I just searched Skylake and found ammulder's post and followed the instructions exactly a VIOLA! it worked perfectly the first try.
SUMMARY
WHAT WORKS
- On-board graphics
- Discrete GPU
- Ethernet
- Audio
- USB ports (all working) Haven't tried the Type-C port, yet
- Power management (sleep mode)
WHAT DOESN'T WORK
- On-board wifi
One last thing. I know that the on-board wifi card doesn't work but since I have a mini-iTX board I only have 1 PCI-E (GTX 970) slot and don't really want to run cabling all the way to my PC. Does anyone know a work around to this problem or perhaps some USB device? BTW I know I can get an m.2 card but I want to use my m.2 for a 950 pro when I get the cash. Thanks!
