This 1st my first Hackintosh build, which works as stable as my previous 21,5" iMac Mid 2011 before. I went with Mavericks 10.9.4.

The 8-Series of Gigabyte makes it pretty easy to install everything for your Hackintosh. There are not much drivers you need, cause many things are natively supported out of the box and you have a stable Machine with good power. I recommend using the 8th Series of Gigabyte Boards if you want to have an easy install.

My further advise: Buy an i5 and go with a better Graphics Card (in my case I went with GTX770 over GTX760), cause in the end the i5 can be overclocked and will as good in 2-3 years as it is now. The Graphic Cards section move much faster forward so basically you need to switch your Graphic Cards much earlier than a CPU. THIS IS MY OPINION. In Case you ask: You don't need an i7 for Gaming.

Pre-Installation Process
Create a bootable Stick with Unibeast (Mavericks 10.9.4)

Installation Process

1. BIOS Settings
  • Update your BIOS for Haswell, Reboot, Boot in BIOS again
  • Reset to "Optimized Defaults" (you can push F7 for that and hit enter)
  • xHCI mode = auto
  • xHCI Hand off = enabled
  • EHCI Hand off = enabled
  • XMP memory profile = profile1
  • vt-D = disabled

Everything else can be left as it is.

Pre-Mulitbeast-Decision: Sound
Sound seems to be most of the time an issue, so first of all ask yourself what will be your Setup? Will it be via SPDIF/HDMI or via 3 Port Output?

  • For SPDIF/HDMI install VoodooHDA 2.8.5
  • For 5.1 Output install ALC 892 + Optional 3 Port (5.1) Audio in Mulitbeast 6.4*1
  • Important: Install either of those, NOT both of them.

*1 Some Users have problems in 10.9.x with Multibeast 6.4 Audio driver. Possible Solution:

  1. Remove AppleHDA.kext from /System/Library/Extensions (if you installed ALC Audio with Multibeast 6.4).
  2. Download Mutlibeast 6.1.0 and install ALC Audio Driver only
  3. Reboot

2. Multibeast Settings
Quick Start > DSDT Free

Drivers > Audio > Realtek ALCxxx > ALC892
Drivers > Audio > Realtek ALCxxx > Optional 3 Port (5.1) Audio

Drivers > Disk > 3rd Party SATA
Drivers > Disk > TRIM Enabler > 10.9.4 TRIM Patch
Drivers > Graphics > Intel Graphics Patch for Mixed Configurations
Drivers > Misc > FakeSMC v6.9.1315
Drivers > Misc > FakeSMC v6.9.1315 Plugins
Drivers > Misc > FakeSMC v6.9.1315 HWMonitor Application
Drivers > Misc > USB 3.0 - Universal*2
Drivers > Network > Intel > AppleIntelE1000e v3.1.0*2
Drivers > System > AppleRTC Patch for CMOS Reset
Bootloaders > Chimera v3.0.1
Customize > Boot Options > Basic Boot Options
Customize > Boot Options > Generate CPU States
Customize > Boot Options > Hibernate Mode - Desktop
Customize > Boot Options > Use KernelCache
Customize > Boot Options > 1080p Display Mode
Customize > System Definitions > Mac Pro > Mac Pro 3,1
Customize > Themes > Chameleon 2.2 Default

Additional Information: GraphicEnabler = No, IGP = Yes

*2 These are not necessary. You can try it without them and if you have issue, install them afterwards.

My Sound-Setup (Soundblast Omni + Logitech Z506)

  • ALC892 + Optional 3 Port (5.1) Audio
  • Download & Install SoundBlast Omni 5.1 Driver + Reboot
    1. Plugin SB Omni via USB in your Hackintosh
    2. Plugin Audio Cable in SB Omni
    3. Connect Logitech Z506 with SB Omni
    4. Start SB Omni Software, Select 5.1, adjust things you want > try & enjoy
  • BENIFIT: The SB Omni comes with a Mircophone which is build in, go your settings and set output audio to SoundBlaster Omni 5.1 USB and you can a Mircophone, like in your Mac :)
  • Troubleshooting: Make 100% sure you plugged the right cable in right inputs.

3. Post-MultiBeast-Installation/Fixes

  1. Trim
Check if your SSD supports Trim, if yes Download TrimEnabler, Install, Enable Trim & reboot (you dont need to buy it, the basic Version is enough to enable it.)
  2. Apple Maps
Looks strange or not working properly? Disable Intel Graphic Processor in BIOS (Might aswell fix the Deep Sleep Audio Problem [not testet yet])
  3. Deep Sleep Audio Problem
    Download & Install & Use: https://github.com/cliffom/appleHDAReset/releases
    - Version 1.6.0 worked for me. However, i turned it off, cause i disabled my Intel Graphic Processor in BIOS to fix Apple Maps-Problem and possible the deep sleep Problem [testing ongoing]

4. My Backup Solution
As recommended i use Carbon Copy Cleaner (v 3.3.1 - cause free) for my Backup. I made a timetable to daily Backups. Furthermore installed Chimera Bootloader v3 on my Backupdrive for the case if my Main-SSD fails in any kind.

5. Airflow
You should have a good Airflow. Why? You expand the life of your PC, reduce the noise of Fans and overall reduce the temperature of your pc.

How? It is simple and you don't even need much for it. I used a stereo-type-build for my Airflow which can be adapted for many PCs. Please consider that the following type is only working if your Supply is at the bottom and your Case is not blocking a possible Airflow. Tested and confirmed with Corsair 300R.

My Airflow is working with 2x Fans at the outside (included with Case) and 2x Enermax T.B. Silence 120mm at the top.

Here is a picture, how it looks like and what it does:

Note: I'm not an Expert in this topic. My knowledge comes from search & research.

If you have further question, feel free to ask them!

Hi, I am a 100% beginner in this field, but I've done lots of research and planning a build which is very similar to yours. 1 question I have is why did you choose h87 over z87? I've heard that z87 is for overclocking and h87 is not, but you have a K series cpu, so I am kinda confused here a little :)
