A while ago, I successfully installed El Capitan 10.11.5 using Clover, on a GA-Z170N-WIFI using internal Intel HD 530 graphics by HDMI using the guide from this site here. I use the Broadcom BCM94352Z DW1560 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WLAN + Bluetooth card, and all was fine for a while. It got upgraded to 10.11.6 and that was OK too.

Then I moved the system. I booted it up without plugging in the bluetooth antenna (doh - I didn't notice), and bluetooth didn't work - by which I mean it showed a working bluetooth icon, but wouldn't actually pair. I saw a message saying 'failed to read HID emulation devices' in the console log and assumed somehow this was a software problem, and did various things to try and fix it (upgraded Clover, ran kextbeast with what I think are the right kexts). It still showed a working bluetooth icon, but wouldn't pair. Eventually I noticed the antenna wasn't plugged in (OK, I admit it, I searched it). I then rebooted with the antenna attached. Now, most confusingly, it comes up with a bluetooth icon with a "~" through it, and the line:

05/06/2017 16:47:58.000 kernel[0]: **** [IOBluetoothFamily][SearchForTransportEventTimeOutHandler] -- Missing Bluetooth Controller Transport!

(note it is booting just fine and I can log in via screen share, so this is unlike 99% of the problems found by googling "Missing Bluetooth Controller Transport!" which appears to be the last line in a common boot failure mode)

I notice despite many tries with Kextbeast it isn't loading FakePCIID_Broadcom_WiFi.kext for some reason:

$ kextstat | egrep -i 'brcm|fake|rehab'

I'm wondering if I actually have 2 problems and an OS upgrade caused the issue. What do I need to do to debug this further?

Very mysterious. It appears to be able to detect posts to tonymacx86.com. I swear I'd run kextbeast at least 10 times, but mysteriously running it again and a reboot resulted in the '...' across the bluetooth icon and a working mouse. So this is fixed for now.
