I would like to update my Yosemite Hack to Sierra. I have been doing my research but I am confuse by the term "Native".
My install is via Clover. To me, at least, native would mean to click the update button and be done. After reading and reading and reading it seems though, that native means a whole lot of preparation first such as creating another Clover folder, mounting it, copying KEXTs and then upgrading.

Am I missing something? Should I just be able to update via the Update button in the Mac App Store?
My system is very basic and Apple compatible. I didn't push the envelope because I wanted reliability over performance (see my specs). I only use it for FCPX.

Any advise would be appreciated.
Cheers

  • ThemacOSSierra from version 10-12.4 on (current released is 10.12.5) requires Clover_v2.3k_r3994 or newer. Otherwise kext injection doesn't work and you may get issues with sound, graphics, etc.
  • Therefore, before you try to download and and click the newer version, update CLOVER EFI Bootloader on your Yosemite to the latest from a download from https://sourceforge.net/projects/cloverefiboot/

Thanks for the link. Clover is now updated. I checked in my KEXT folder to copy to folder "OTHER" per Tony Mac's guide but there is nothing in there to copy.
Now that Clover is updated, do I just download and install via App Store?

Cheers

From Tonymac Downloads, download and then add to "kexts>Others " of your Yosemite Hdd :
  • IntelMausiEthernet kext
and
  • FakeSMC.kext

Thanks again.
Did all that and now I'm just getting a white screen with the beach ball. I thought I would just do an install from scratch but it won't get past

Well I must have done something wrong. All I get now is a white screen and a spinning beach ball.
I will be making a bootable USB drive today. Not the first time unfortunately. :( Hopefully a fresh install will go more smoothly.

Thanks for your help

When upgrading this is a sign of a lack of FakeSMC.kext.
Make sure that it is in /EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other

I'm not quite sure how to do that now that I can't boot to the drive. Is there a way to save my install or should I just do a fresh one?

Cheers

Well, I figured it out. Thanks to you both for your help. I managed to get into the "other" folder and upgraded to Sierra. I'm typing this from my new UPDATE (not fresh install)

Cheers
