[solved] HP Elitebook 840 G2 won't sleep or shutdown

You might be looking at DVMT-size instead of DVMT-prealloc.
But if you actually have DVMT-prealloc at 512MB, that is too large (large values are known to cause problems).
The guide recommends 64MB, although 128MB will probably work ok too.
Please read the guide carefully.
 
The BIOS option I'm given is "Video memory size." That's been set to 512, as shown in the original set of images I uploaded (thought I'd read elsewhere 64 was the minimum, more was fine). Happy to lower that.

That is DVMT-prealloc.
512 is too large.

On hacks, we typically set DVMT-prealloc to 64MB or 128MB.
 
Nailed it. Problem solved. Sleep and shutdown are both working with "Video memory size" set to 64 MB.

I spoke (typed?) a bit too soon. No audio devices in the Sound preference pane after waking from sleep. Shows up after a reboot.
 
I have hp elitebook 840 g2. currently installed 10.14.6. only graphics not solved. I followed rehabman guide. can you please upload your EFI?
