side note: any recommendations on key mapping software? i wanna get the dedicated keys on my keyboard for volume, mute, play, pause and skip forward and backward to work with iTunes / rdio. i forgot their names but i tried 2 programs with no success. any helps appreciated.

I use SizzleKeys for they keymapping. Not free, but not expensive. :headbang:
 
Better Touch tools - for window snapping and general gesture upgrades
Deeper - For customising OSX, things like live wallpaper
Boom - for increasing audio volume on laptop
Smackbook - for switching between windows by tapping your laptop
InsomniaX - stop laptop from sleeping when shutting lid
Bumptop - for 3d desktop
Disk inventory X - for freeing up diskspace
Plex - for media player, library, android remote.
Itap - For android remote control
Clean my mac - freeing space, deleting language files
Jdownloader - for downloading from file sharing sites, getting multiple files from a page
Ut*****t - the best t*****t downloader
Split and concat - java any platform for splitting large files and then rejoining them

others, adobe master collection, adobe light room, final cut, logic, Cinema 4d, realflow, puredata, aulabs, quartz composser, vdmx5, modul8, VLC, BB Edit, Free Ruler......

Excellent thread and I use many of these programs but am surprised no one has mentioned

Xmenu - It is always the very first program I install. It makes Launching programs so much easier. I don't understand why Apple don't integrate it into the OS. Launchpad is OK but nowhere near as easy as Xmenu. http://www.devon-technologies.com/products/freeware/
 
Captur - Free and Easy Screen Capture Util.

I like this one better the Skitch or whatever it is.
