Allright, when more people have successfully tested this, I'll call that the FINAL FIX

It's a ONE BIT patch ;)

in AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB 64bit OSX 10.6.8 / 10.7.x
find:

Code:
00 43 0e 00 75 06 f6 45 f7 01 74 0b c6 46 36 01 b8 01

make the last byte of that sequence 0x00 .... you are set ....

should we even be excpecting performance improvments ......

happy hacking!, BIG THX to netusername, BigDonkey and all others that have helped, and will be helping if this is not final ....

PS: i'll comment later on what I think is actually going on .....

@netusername

Yeah, stop, thats what I needed, lines!!! Just to confirm this hasn't got anything to do with
it!

It's still BIG HELP, thanks ......

@netusername: do you have a line saying:
RTC: Only single RAM bank (128 bytes)
in your kernel.log

see, I've got this line as well ....

Now! Are there any people without this line and more than one RAM stick, and still have those artifacts ... that is the question!!!

I will take out my RAM, and check for this line, see if its still there ... just for fun ....

There is a lot of timing going on, within the driver, possibly if the timing soft/hardware is not
100% we see those errors ....

I reverted to stock AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB, and got lines immediately ...
So it feels the patch does something ....

Removing RAM will change VRAM setting, which may also impact this.

What's odd is that some reboots immediately have problems. Others go days fine. Things like SMCping and FakeSMC help, but problems can reappear. Seems non-deterministic and hard to pin down.

im not a guru on that low level things at all, but i can help with testing if you guide me.

4730s HD3000 + AMD6470 (disabled) 2x4Gb 1.35v 1600x900 display. GE=No

With latest probook installer and laptop display, very few artifacts (usually none, and sometimes, a few of them)

whenever i plug a second display (either as the only one or as a secondary) artifacts go crazy. i can still work, but they are disturbing.

If i can be of any help with my setup just tell me what to try and test.

Who has got this line in his kernel.log:

RTC: Only single RAM bank (128 bytes)

I'd like to find out if we fix this problem, would it fix the glitches as well .... ????

EDIT: Confirmed to do nothing ...., Please ignore!

WEIRED !!!

Modified the "ONE BIT" patch beeing a "TWO BIT" patch!

Details: HERE

I uploaded this patch, try this and tell me it's just my machine, which is playing tricks on me!!! Please ....
