Ok so quick back story. I have always been interested in making a Hackintosh. Unfortunately, my dreams extend way past my ability. So, about 6 or 7 years ago, I bought a hackintosh from someone I met on youtube who actually lived near me. It has been a great computer. However, I am still running OS 10.6, and I seriously need to upgrade the OS. My first plan was to just build another one (I might still do that) but the thought crossed my mind to possibly RE Hack this thing with a new OS. Here's the issue. I'm very new to building computers and without taking this thing apart I have a tuff time telling you whats in it. From what I can see it has:
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Dual bios Motherboard
EVGA nVidia GeForce GTX260
Corsair TX750 Watt Power Supply
The Processor is running 4.2 GHZ Quad-Core Intel Xeon
(I wish I could tell you what processor it is but I don't really know where I would find that info other than taking the machine apart. It doesn't say in "about this mac" section of the computer)
The RAM looks like - G Skill TL Series 12GB (6 x 2GB) 240-PIN DDR3
Corsair Hydro Cooling Series.
An internal 250Gig SSD and a second internal 1T Hard disk that I just use for storage.
I have no way of contacting the person I bought it from, and, to be honest, I'd like to tackle this project myself cause it would be a great learning experience. Plus the computer is actually still really good and the only thing holding me back is the OS. I use it to record music at a recording studio and lots of my plugins just aren't working anymore cause my OS is so old. My worry is I'll mess this machine up, and I still use it at my recording studio so I would like to be alittle more confident its gonna work. Here's my thinking....remove the old SSD and put in a new one......can I run a boot loader from there and then add the new OS? Or is the original Boot loader the guy used who built it, still in there even though I put a new SSD in there? I'm gonna assume the parts are ok to run mac because it is currently running mac 10.6. Again I'm new and eager to learn. I greatly appreciate the feedback. THANK YOU!
