I want to upgrade from High Sierra to Catalina but I still have an older Nvidia GPU.

Question: Will my built in Intel CPU graphics allow me to upgrade to Catalina until I can purchase a new AMD GPU?

You should be okay with the iGPU. Search here for HD530 for others who use it and their configurations

Yes, it should. I suggest removing the Nvidia GPU and use Intel integrated graphics if you want to upgrade to Catalina now. Otherwise you can just wait for your AMD GPU and replace the Nvidia GPU at that time.
