i rebooted (using same dsdt as the one i posted) and then reran ioregexplorer

Nothing changed. The last dsdt attached above is not the dsdt loading. There is another dsdt that has been there from the beginning and it is still there. Find another way to install the edited dsdt because the current method is not working.

interesting. i will try to sort this out.

as i work thru this, what can i look at (i assume something in ioreg output) to determine that the correct dsdt is loading?

In HDEF, Realtek 885/889a is a big clue.

i figured out the problem with the loading of the wrong dsdt.

attached is the current dsdt, and current ioreg output.

in system prefs-->sound there are now 4 devices--internal speaker, 2 audio out, and optical out. the speaker icon in the dock is active. just no sound from either the front or rear green jack. i have no way to test the digital out sound device.

also--i should have mentioned earlier that this mobo has an ALC888S codec. perhaps that has a different layout id from the 888.

The dsdt is good. IOReg shows everything correct. in System Preferences/Sound/Output, does Internal Speakers change to Headphones when you plug a jack into the front green port? Try the the trouble shooting tips in the Read_Me_First.

the device changes to headphone when i plug my powered speakers into the front jack. however, still no sound from either green jack, trying all 3 of the devices. reinstalled (using kext utility then repairing permissions) your appleHDA kext, but still no sound.

i conclude that this particular mobo must have a quirk in the 888 codec.

back to voodooHDA, i guess.
