Not able to boot os-x el-capitan on hp probook 4540s after fresh install.

You can clear any entries you don't want. But set an entry for Clover: \EFI\CLOVER\CLOVERX64.EFI.

You can set that entry right within the ProBook BIOS.

Other entries got removed. But when I installed el-capitan again and tried to install HP probook installer 6.4.4 I got an error saying.

The system extension DirectHW.kext is not compatible with this version of OS X and can't be used.

Also after restart I see apple logo for a second and then screen goes blank.

Don't attempt to use "Troubleshooting files" option. It is broken.

error went away. But still I am not able to boot. Screen goes blank after showing apple logo for few seconds.

Surprisingly it booted fine for the first time. But after that this started to happen.
