My Solution to "OS X Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer"

ist just editing the SMBios.plist to show a "real" mac

from his blog:

The solution is simple:
Download Champlist app from here: Champlist.app - Chameleon Tweaker
Go to SMBios tab
Choose MacPro3,1
Press Save As... and save SMBios.plist to /Extra folder
This is it. Reboot now and try to install Mountain Lion again.

This "trick" posted above can be done with Multibeast with selecting a new identiy for your HackIntosh which just adds the new faked Mac-ID to SMBios.plist to trick OSX into thinking it runs on a real mac.

Warning!

Should you pick the wrong identity for your hardware combo your hack may end up with an almost unusable performance at best or at worst unable to boot!

Check up your hardware with the appropriate stuff built into a real Mac and pick the best corresponding model for a new identity.

Totally agree with previous comment. Clear and sensible.

I guess most CustoMacs default to Mac Pro 3,1 because the Mac Pro line featured the most likely similar components to a possible new build.

The iMac 12,1 is also a good choice for i3 or i5 1155 in my experience, having caused no kernel panics. 12,2 or later Mac Pros do though.

Hi there!
Your comments are very reasonable.
I updated the blog post so now it is more informative and correct.
