Re: MultiBeast 3.0.0

Where is the thread that shows Tony's & forum member's Multibeast recommendations? Thought it was great.

Also: Would it be useful to have a permanent place for samples of what to check in Multibeast when upgrading? Folks could point to that posting when asked for Multibeast guidance.
Maybe also include it in the iBoot/Multibeast documentation. The one that explains what changes Multibeast actually makes [kexts,System Utility, etc.]

For example:
Multibeast 3.03 graphic showing the checks to use when going from Retail 10.6.3 to combo 10.6.5 [until 10.6.6 this was the most needed]
Multibeast 3.03 graphic showing the checks to use when going from Retail 10.6.3 to combo 10.6.6 [this is or will be the most needed]
Multibeast 3.03 graphic showing the checks to use when going from 10.6.4 to combo 10.6.5
Multibeast 3.03 graphic showing the checks to use when going from 10.6.5 to 10.6.6
I think the samples posted could be limited to those needed by the largest number of upgraders.

I think Tony does a good job of explaining things on his Blog posts for each upgrade. He does go back and edit them with the latest findings from the forum threads when people test the updates.

P.S. Also a new Kabyl boot file out - rev700 !!!

I can't get MultiBeast to install on a USB drive. I've tried it using a MacBook and a ASUS based hackintosh. It just hangs on 'writing package receipt'. I've searched and come up with nothing. There is a package left on the root level of the startup drive that can't be deleted after force quitting MB.

My only option is to install kexts individually and I hope that works. I'd prefer to use MB. Anyone have suggestions?

You shouldn't run Multibeast on an real Mac, it needs no Chameleon and an /Extra folder to boot. And i don't remember an option in Multibeast to choose a destinationdrive, so it installed all what you'd checked on your Macbook. Hopefully it will start again.

EDIT: Have found the option to choose the destination...sorry for inconvenience.

Hmmm...strange. You can try to install only Chameleon on the USB drive (perhaps with a standalone Chameleon installer.pkg), from the MB while it's connected to your MB. Then connect it to your Hack and try to start the USB drive with iBoot. If it's boot fine, you can do installing your kexts individually or use Multibeast or whatever.

Danke!

I did try this on a Hackintosh *and* my iBook, but I always switched to the USB partition in all cases. MultiBeast just wouldn't work. Odd.

I ended up using KextUtility and manually installing them.

That ended up working but MB would have been a lot easier. I have the USB partition booting into 10.6.3. I used CarbonCopyCloner (CCC) to copy to another partition and have had that running for about 20 hours uptime, no kernel panics.

Next, I'll try the 10.6.6 on the first USB partition and if I get that running fine, I'll do the same to the current one, then I'll use CCC to copy it to the internal HD.

I hope I can figure out what is going on with Multibeast soon, as my HPTC needs to be updated to 10.6 as well and I'd rather the MB simplicity.

I seem to remember Shuttle builds being on the wish list for the Hardware to be supported by MultiBeast.

I'm a bit confused why your are installing OSX & Chameleon to a USB key rather than a HD? Is it to move it around similar sets of Hardware?

I do that for testing purposes sometimes. For a safety recovery i clone my main HD to an 500 USB drive by using CCC and after Cloning is finish, i only install Chameleon on the USB drive to make it bootable.

Exactly. I install on a hard drive connected via USB and test on that. Once all is well, I use CCC to backup to the internal drive. Makes testing and upgrading easy and gives me a ready system backup as well.

I have just used MultiBeast on a Shuttle, worked fine. It didn't before, so I don't know what to say about that. It also wasn't working on a ASUS P5 series as well.

I still can't install MB. Here are the logs showing what is going on. If anyone has a suggestion, I **really** need to install Chameleon.
