Moarfish's build - GA-B75M-D3H i5 3570K

Also, I'm a little curious why you went for GA-B75M-D3H instead of GA-B75M-D3P (linked from the Customac guide)? And given I have the GA-B75M-D3P, is this guide still valid for me? The differences seem to come down to the number of SATA3 ports, a few video output types, and the types of expansion slots (I believe) - http://ee.gigabyte.com/microsites/79/data/models.html

What BIOS version are you running?

GA-B75M-D3P is more expensive than GA-B75M-D3H with additional features that I DON'T need.
I choose B75 chips because of its cheap price so I pick the cheapest one that fits all my need. If it is not the $$ that matter, why not go for Z77 instead?

DON'T Need features include:
- Display port connector. (My monitor do not have one and I am fine with DVI)
- Extra SATA 3 ports. (I just need one port for my SSD, and the extra ports are using 3rd Party Chipset "Marvell 88SE9172 chip", not sure if it works with ML 10.8 or not)

The features above need extra cost and I don't need it. $$ saved.

I did not update my BIOS as it is running good. I have to check the BIOS version if you want to know. However, different BIOS are all fine to work with my guide as you do not need DSDT file for this board.

OK, one more question for now... I see that you did not select Trim in multibeast, yet you have a 3rd-party SSD. Why didn't you?

I have finished installing Mountain Lion, and ran Multibeast with the options you chose (though I *did* select trim as an option).

Under System Information / Serial-ATA, there is an Unknown AHCI Standard Controller, and under that is my SSD (Adata SX900). It says Trim Support: No. What's going on? how do I not have Trim support with that option selected in Multibeast?

And is there a reason the drive isn't showing up under Marvell 88SE9172?

...

I did want this one for the extra SATA3 ports, and Displayport, I believe will power higher than 1920x1200, and I do have a monitor with higher resolution. Maybe some day I would need to use that monitor with this computer? And the D3P was less than $100 here. Hard to get much better than that.

Thanks for filling me in :)

There was an ongoing debate whether SandForce chips based SSD require Trim or not. Some say it won't have significant performance boost (if any) when it got Trim enabled. I have it running pretty good without Trim so far. I decided to let it disabled. You can google sandforce trim for some more information.

I do not have the Marvell Controller so you have to test it out or search for other post for it.

Thanks Hanshugo :)

For you, the next is a new SSD like Crucial M4 for example. Very good perfomance.
One question please. What rpm and temperature are running your fans including the cpu fan.

The advantage of control the Fans on bios via PWM is that you don't need no fan software on mac or windows to control de rpm and db. I'm right ?

My idea is to buy prolimatech megahalems
http://www.caseking.de/shop/catalog/Prolimatech-Megahalems-CPU-Cooler-RevC::11782.html

and 3 silentwings pwm
http://www.caseking.de/shop/catalog/Be-Quiet-Luefter-Shadow-Wings-PWM-120mm::17629.html

But now, i will take a look to this cpu fan. Thanks again. ;)

I use a Scythe Big Shuriken 2 Rev. B CPU Cooler and replaced the fan with this one: Alpenföhn Shamrock Wing Boost Plus PWM
in the bios I set the CPU fan control to "Silent" now my 2nd HD is the most noisiest part in my hackintosh.

Edit: If someone are interesting on pwm fans. The following link is a comparison about 40 PWM Fans (noise/performance). Very interesting but french language.

I also like my M4 SSD. My case (SilverStone Grandia GD05B USB 3.0) is really small, so my temps are a little bit higher then in a midi tower.

even on 750 rpm I can not hear the CPU fan.

i replaced the case fans with 3 Scythe Slip Stream 120 800rpm but I don´t use the PWM case fan connector (you could use an adapter). I just run them on 5V. http://www.pc-erfahrung.de/casemodding0/lfter-drossel.html

if size don´t matter you could also consider this CPU cooler: EKL Alpenföhn Brocken

Thanks ... Really interesting and very good info. :)

The review says that shadow wings and scythe slip stream are the best pwm fans to choice.

My case is a Silvertone FT03.

It won't boot if it is not set to the default 64M settings.

Mac OS X will allocate the memory accordingly. Don't worry.

Look at this guide for detail:

Thanks for the link. Is it more informational since I installed with the latest version of Multibeast, or do you think I'll need to do anything with the information in that thread? FWIW, I'm getting my monitor's native resolution, 1600x1200. I haven't spent a lot of time with the machine since it was getting late so I haven't tested games or HD videos.

Thanks. I've found a bit on Sandforce with Hackintoshes that seem to corroborate what you say regarding not needing trim. I'm still wondering why it doesn't show Trim enabled even though I selected it in Multibeast. Maybe Multibeast is smart enough not to install Trim on a Sandforce SSD? I don't know.

I'm still trying to figure out the Unknown AHCI Standard Controller bit, however.
